DOC BROWN'S IMMINENT LUMINARIES: JERRELL HARRIS

by Rupert, Ghosts of Wayne Fontes

The one and only Doctor Emmett Brown has joined the Epic Carnival team to provide insight on some of the great sports stars of the future. Having placated all potential problems in Hill Valley, he has turned his attention to sports. He has seen that the future has to offer and is here to give us a sneak peak. Brown is going to drop by from time to time and show us a variety of some stars you might not have heard of yet, but certainly will. These are some of the heavy hitters in high school sports today who are sure to make an impact on the college scene before long.

"There's that word again; "heavy". Why are things so heavy in the future? Is there a problem with the earth's gravitational pull?"

This week's star from the future is Jerrell Harris. All it takes is a peek at the 4 second video clip below (don't tell me you ADHD whippersnappers can't watch a 4 second video) to know what this kid is capable of doing. That poor kid is probably still in the hospital. Harris is the type of player who will spend the first half of the play knocking down the quarterback and make a tackle twenty five yards down field 10 seconds later. While he is yet to commit, he is being wooed heavily on his home turf and many suspect that Alabama and Nick Saban will get the nod, but LSU and Florida are also still on the short list. Whoever gets the signature from Jerrell is getting a franchise player on the defensive side of the ball.

Name: Jerrell Harris

Position: Outside Linebacker

Ranking: Rivals 5 stars and Scout 4 stars

Vitals: 6'2" / 220 pounds / 4.5 forty

Video:

Strengths: Harris is a hawk and made 130 tackles, 3 interceptions, and two sacks as a junior. He covers a ton of ground and does not give up until the whistle blows. It's not rare to see him cover about 40 yards on a defensive play. As you well know, he is a hard hitter and causes a lot of havoc in the backfield, particularly against the run.

Stats/Accolades: First team all-state in Alabama as a junior

Criticisms: Harris has a lot to learn before he can take on a 300+ pound lineman. He often tries to run over blockers or run around them, causing him to overpursue, making up for it with his speed. At the high school level, he gets away with it, but next year will likely be another story. He also plays like an inside linebacker a lot of the time, so will need to play a more disciplined game in his role at the college level. He has yet to utilize much in the way of pass rush moves and will need more exposure to coverage situations.

Interesting Factoid: Jerrell Harris played a key role in the movie, Menace II Society, as the kid who rides the Big Wheel when KD gets a cap in his ass. Actually, I just made that up, but I didn't really find any notable factoids. I guess it's sort of interesting that Jerrell pretty much looks like about a 29 year-old man and has not finished high school yet.
