The one and only Doctor Emmett Brown has joined the Epic Carnival team to provide insight on some of the great sports stars of the future. Having placated all potential problems in Hill Valley, he has turned his attention to sports. He has seen that the future has to offer and is here to give us a sneak peak. Brown is going to drop by from time to time and show us a variety of some stars you might not have heard of yet, but certainly will. These are some of the heavy hitters in high school sports today who are sure to make an impact on the college scene before long.
"There's that word again; "heavy". Why are things so heavy in the future? Is there a problem with the earth's gravitational pull?"
Today we are taking a long look at Will Hill out of Jersey City. Given the amazing wit of local sports writers, you probably known him better as "the Thrill." Personally, I would have gone for Will "Take Your Birth Control Pill" Hill, because he is the man - but that's just me. I would say Will Hill is probably one of the most well known recruits to come out of the greater New York City area as he hails from just across the river in Jersey City. He decided to pass on the Scarlett Knights as he recently announced his verbal to Florida at the ESPN Zone in Manhattan. Look out Gainesville.
Name: Will Hill
Position: Athlete (currently Quarterback and Safety)
Ranking: Rivals 5 stars and Scout 5 stars
Vitals: 6'3" / 203 pounds / 4.4 forty
Video:
Strengths: Hill's strengths look like he is made to play college football, particularly in an explosive spread set like at the University of Florida. He's a guy who makes people miss in the open field and has great vision. He can play a lot of positions, so will make a nice Charles Woodson-esque asset wherever he ends up playing. In particular, he returned 3 punts for touchdowns, picked off three passes, and returned two kickoffs to the house - and that's in addition to 13 rushing and 11 passing TDs.
Stats/Accolades: New Jersey player of the year as a junior.
Criticisms:The looming question everyone wants to know about Hill is "What do you do with him?" He is listed as "athlete," which means he has basically spent his high school career doing anything he wants. On offense, he lines up at quarterback, but he plays like a Pop Warner QB in that it basically just saves a step by putting the ball directly in his hands. His arm is not bad, but nobody seems to really expect him to play QB in college. Personally, I don't know why everyone is so quick to write him off as he reminds me a whole lot of Dennis Dixon. Granted, he needs to work on arm strength and get a lot of coaching, but who knows. At 6'3", he's certainly likely to get a look at wide receiver, but is primarily expected to play in the defensive backfield. He also needs to learn to tuck the ball away or he will be coughing up a lot of fumbles. Finally, while he is listed at a 4.4 forty, he looks a little slower than that in the videos.
Interesting Note: Will Hill's cousin, Al-Ghaffaar Lane, is headed to Rutgers to play defensive end, but it apparently wasn't enough to sway Will from crossing state lines in favor of the Gators.
