Listed at 6'0" and just 200 lbs., simple physics explain why Felix Jones naturally flies under the radar in conversation concerning first-class running backs in college football. Playing in the shadow of Heisman hopeful Darren McFadden, its been a struggle for Felix to attract any sort of national spotlight. Typically, it's difficult for Arkansas to obtain any consistent national attention in the first place, which is why Razorbacks' fans worship the accolades McFadden has stockpiled this past year. But Arkansas fans will be the first ones to tell you that Felix Jones is as good as any running back in the country (besides McFadden). He's quick, elusive, but most importantly, he's an intelligent football player.
When opposing teams and fans think about Arkansas, two things come to mind. A head coach who thinks about helmets while he masturbates. And Darren McFadden. Why does everyone forget about #25? For some reason people ignore the fact Felix averages 9.3 yards per carry, good enough for tops in the country. Amazingly, people muster someway to overlook the fact he's averaging 114 yards per game, making him the second leading rusher in the SEC (behind guess who?), in the best conference in the country. He's gone over the century mark six times in nine games, and Arkansas is 6-0 when Felix scores a touchdown. Winless, 0-3, when he doesn't.
He's leading the SEC in kick return average. Note he's not leading in total kick return yards because opposing teams have adopted the pooch kick method when playing the Hogs. It seems most coaches would rather take a shit at rundown strip club than kick deep to McFadden and Felix.
Felix currently sits 20th in the nation in total rushing yards (1,049 yards). However, the little amount of carries Felix netted to accumulate those yards goes neglected. Felix has carried the ball just 119 times this year. The closest player to that is Oregon's Jonathan Stuart who's carried the ball 177 times. The nation's leading rusher, Matt Forte from Tulane, has 259 rushes which he's used to run over the likes of Houston, Army, SMU and SE Louisiana.
Which brings up the question, what would Felix's numbers be if he had 140 more carries?
He's deadly wherever he is on the field, and, in my mind, Felix is more dangerous in the "Wildhog" formation than McFadden is.
You can credit all of his success to McFadden if you wish, but Felix Jones IS the most underrated player in college football.
