You ever just have one of those days? No milk for your cereal, cold water in the shower, you can't find your favorite tie and then you pictures of your wife getting a train run on her by 12 guys in your underwear drawer. Just a bad day all around. Well, I can guarantee you don't have it as bad as Tyrone Hanson. Tyrone was a 6'6" sophomore on the Nevada Wolfpack basketball. I saw "was" because Tyrone was kicked off the team by Coach Mark Fox.
Tyrone visited a good ol' fashioned college party on Saturday night in Reno. You remember parties in college, a few drinks, a few laughs, someone gets beaten within an inch of their life and three other people are murdered.
Luckily for Tyrone, he was the one beaten unconscious and not one of the three that was killed. Shortly after he woke up however, he was kicked off the team by Fox. Tough luck, but it seems that Hanson is taking it in stride:
"I have enjoyed my time here at Nevada and I am sad to see it come to an end. I want to thank Coach Fox for helping me understand what it means to be a man," he said.
Very mature response from the young man, so mature in fact, I am shocked that he would ever get into this type of trouble. What could the fight have been over? He probably defending the honor of a woman, or arguing the pros/cons of a national health-care plan. I know, Tyrone was attempting to save a starving puppy, who had a starving baby in it's mouth, when a group of ruffians accosted him. All of those scenarios are close, but not exactly true:
The fatal shootings at a home rented by university students were prompted by a party crasher who bumped into Hanson while dancing and later beat him and stole his wallet, Reno police said.
Well, at least it was worth it, no one, and I mean no one has the right to bump into someone else at very crowded college party.
Judging by this statement from the girlfriend of one of the deceased, maybe it is time to clean up the basketball and football programs at Nevada:
"This was not a teen house party," she said. "The wrong people were showing up, like football and basketball players."
Although it looks it might do some good at Nevada, I don't think the "If you go to a party where someone is murdered, you are kicked off the team," policy would work in the pros. Especially not in the NFL, where if this rule was enforced, they would have to change the game to 3-on-3 with Drew Brees as the All-Time QB.
