JERRYWORLD TO HOST ARKANSAS-TEXAS A&M SERIES

by Mike, The Pig Pen

It's already secured the Super Bowl, the Cotton Bowl and the Big XII Championship and just last week, officials announced plans to bring a Final Four to Arlington. Now, according to the Dallas Morning News, Texas A&M and Arkansas are close to sealing a deal which would bring an Aggie-Hog matchup to the new Cowboys stadium.

Via DMN:
Texas A&M and Arkansas officials are close to finalizing a non-conference football series at the new Cowboys stadium in Arlington starting in 2009, a source close to the negotiations told The Dallas Morning News.

The schools are close to signing a six- to eight-year deal that would bring a potential blockbuster match-up to the area that could rival the annual Texas-Oklahoma game at Fair Park.

How great would this be? From personal experience I know the Hog fan-base in Dallas is amazing, and I'm sure A&M's isn't too shabby so there shouldn't be any trouble selling tickets. A game like this would be great for the schools, the stadium, and the city. Revenue from a match-up like this one could rival the annual Texas-Oklahoma game.

The game could generate millions for both schools, just like the Texas-OU game does. However, A&M and Arkansas would play in a new, $1 billion stadium, as opposed to the aging Cotton Bowl.

The new Cowboys stadium can be configured to hold a maximum of 100,000 fans. If school officials charged a premium ticket price, possibly $90 to $100, ticket sales alone would generate at least $9 million.

It's sad but eventually Jerryworld will snatch the Texas-OU game from the historic Cotton Bowl. It's just a matter of time, but I think the game's contract with the Cotton Bowl runs through 2015. Enjoy it while it lasts.

According to the DMN, Arkansas officials are flying into the metroplex this week to take a final look at the stadium and the contract.

Side note: When Texas-OU renegotiated its contracts with the Cotton Bowl, rumor has it Texas wanted Cotton Bowl officials never to invite Arkansas to play a regular season game at the Cotton Bowl because of the draw the Hogs receive. Texas knows what kind of impact a high-profile game like that can have on a young high-school senior out of the North Texas area, and they don't want anymore competition. Pussies. I wonder what they'll have to say about this game. A game with not just Arkansas, but their bitter rivals out of College Station also.

Hook 'em losers. Have fun in the Holiday Bowl.
