Not that anyone gives a crap, but Alessio di Mauro was given a nine-month suspension Saturday for betting on tennis matches.
This officially makes him the first player to be reprimanded under the Association of Tennis Professionals' new anti-corruption rules. The 124th-ranked Italian was also slapped with a $60,000 fine after being found guilty of making 120 bets with an online bookmaker between November 2006 and mid-June of this year.
Though none of the wagers were made on his own matches and no results were affected, the ATP feels an example must be made of di Mauro's lack of integrity, whether this makes him a scapegoat or not.
Considering the wild look in his eye, maybe they should look into speaking with di Mauro's crack dealer, as well.
