Quick confession here before we get into this - I am a huge fan of professional wrestling. When I was a kid I got hooked on the WWE and because of a very close soon-to-be familial relation I still watch the "E" to this day. However, what I enjoy more then the main stream wrestling shows that you get on TV, is the independent wrestling scene highlighted by Ring Of Honor, Full Impact Pro, and Pro Wrestling Guerilla. If you're a West Coast indy wrestling fan you know all about PWG, and you know all about Human Tornado. Well Craig Williams aka Human Tornado was awesome enough to exchange emails with me and I wanted to post those because I became a huge fanboy while talking to him and you should all be able to experience my joy.
Before getting into it I want to give those of you not familiar with Human Tornado exactly what you're dealing with here. If you've ever thought that what has been missing in the world of professional wrestling was blacksploitation pimps who break dance in the ring - then Human Tornado is your new favorite wrestler. If you're a wrestling fan who doesn't follow anything not on TV then you know Human Tornado from his matches on MTV's Wrestling Society X (WSX). If you're a huge Tenacious D fan then you might know Tornado as El Snowflake from the Oscar worthy Nacho Libre.
If you're a wrestling fan then you know Human Tornado as a former PWG World Champion, PWG Tag Team Champion (w/ El Generico, ole!), AWS Heavyweight Champion, AWS Light Heavyweight Champion, EWF American Champion, Rev-Pro Junior Heavyweight Champion and WSU Heavyweight Champion. What I'm trying to say is that Tornado is well traveled, well respected and he's only 24 years old. Don't say I didn't warn you when you start hearing his name come up all over the country.
Now before I post these questions I have to admit something. Everytime I interview someone, or have an email correspondence with them I feel like a dope. I'm not a reporter, and I never know what types of questions to ask. With Human Tornado I was really just going fanboy stupid so the questions didn't make any sense and to his credit he just laughed it off instead of pimp slapping me through my computer. In an effort to show you all that I'm truly an idiot I'm going to post all of my questions to Tornado in full because you can see how absolutely horrible they are for youself. I'm also going to throw in some notes about some of the stuff he says because I want to build up a couple of things. So yeah, here we go Shootin' The Shit with Human Tornado.
SPSR: Do more people recognize you as Human Tornado or El Snowflake? And what was it like seeing yourself on the big screen?
Tornado: Mostly Tornado but many lucha fans know me as snowflake. It was pretty cool see myself on the big screen. I didint know what part I was in and then BAM my skinny ass naked on the big screen.
SPSR: Most people who aren't as consumed with the independent wrestling scene probably know you from "Wrestling Society X" on MTV. With the assortment of talent that was involved in WSX did you think that it had a chance to succeed? Or did it always seem like it was a good opportunity to get some exposure but the whole thing was destined to struggle?
Tornado: WSX was a cool idea. All the talent were on there A- game. WSX dvd is on sale November 13th.
(Note: WSX never got a fair shake from MTV and it suffered because of it. The talent there was believeable with Human Tornado, Matt Sydal, Colt Cabana, Jack Evans, Sean Waltman, Vampiro and the best tag teams in the world. I can't wait for this DVD to come out because it should be stacked and hopefully if you're a wrestling fan you'll give it a try. The special effects almost ruin the whole thing but if they have full matches on the DVD it'll be worth every penny.)
SPSR: As a biased wrestling fan from the East Coast I am a huge Ring Of Honor fan. I know that you recently made your ROH debut when they were on the West Coast. What was that like? You were involved in matches with Chris Hero both nights for ROH, and for those who don't know in PWG you are currently having a situation with Hero but you're really the bad guy. How was it taking on Chris Hero from the opposite side of the aisle as it were? (Note: This was without a doubt the worst question ever asked in an interview ever. Seriously Byron Allen asks better questions then this and I am ashamed that it even happened. Luckily Tornado was cool shit about it and just laughed off the horrendous filth coming out of my mouth.)
Tornado: Yea, I'm lost. Lol
SPSR: The ROH website has you confirmed for the 11/30 Dayton, OH show, and the 12/1 Chicago Ridge show - are you excited to be making trips away from the West Coast with ROH? and more importantly for someone stuck in Boston, is there any chance that you'll be coming all the way to the East Coast with ROH in the future?
Tornado: I'm excited for every show. I'm gonna rock ROH just like I always rock PWG and every other fed I stepped in. Now I'm looking to improve my overall record and bitchslap anyone in my way!
(Note: The fact that I got Human Tornado to cut a promo in an email to me made my weekend.)
SPSR: I know this weekend PWG has a show (11/11 Burbank Armory) where you and a mystery partner (one of my favorite wrestling gimmicks of all time) will be taking on Chris Hero and a parter of his choosing. How is it working with Hero, and who are some of your favorite guys that you've been able to work with?
Tornado: Me and bboy always had interesting matches. My AWS match were awesome but greener days. You can get them at www.alternativewrestlingshow.com
SPSR: I'll let you go on this one since I'm sure I've taken way more of your time then I deserve - is the dream always going to be to get a call from Vince to work the WWE? I guess in five years do you see Human Tornado at Wrestlemania? Is that always the goal when you get involved in this line of work?
Tornado: Well...my goal in wrestling is to wrestle at the Anahiem Pond. I know its Honda Center but dammit I still call it the pond!
Alright that was the end of the email exchange because I could've sent him a hundred questions and still had more. Hopefully I get the chance to talk to Tornado again in the future as his career continues to take off and hopefully the next time I'm not such a dolt. I really do want to thank him for being so cool to me and taking time to answer my questions - do him a solid and go check out the DVD releases from PWG, AWS, and the upcoming WSX Season 1 release. If you want to check Tornado out in action to see for yourself his awesomeness check this video of him against El Generico. Finally to keep up with all things Tornado check out his myspace page and tell him that the you're a Six Pack Sports Report disciple.
