I recently traveled to the University of Maryland for the Boston College against Maryland football game this past weekend. My flight was early on Saturday morning, but the game was taking place in the evening so my traveling partner and I decided to take in some NCAA field hockey. I have to be honest with you that I am not the biggest field hockey fan, but I do have a younger cousin that plays the sport, so I thought I'd give it a shot. It turned out to be worth my while as we had a great time watching the University of Maryland destroy Old Dominion 5-0 and Penn State take out Virginia in a very exciting 3-2 game.
After the field hockey games, we grabbed some dinner before heading over to the football stadium. The Boston College Eagles decided for the second straight week to play bad football which is reminiscent of the previous regime under Tom O'Brien. The Terps took the opening drive 76 yards in six plays for the quick 7-0 lead with 12:50 left in the first quarter. This was the story of the evening as the BC defense allowed Maryland to score on their first seven out of eight possessions as the Eagles lost 42-35.
It is a great feeling to head on the road and see your team win a big game which I have done very often over the last few years with the Eagles. Unfortunately, this was my first time seeing the Eagles lose on the road since 1995 when BC lost 38-6 to Ohio State. Still, if you are able to afford to go on the road to see your favorite team, then you have to do it just to experience game day at another school or stadium. It feels so different than it does at your home stadium with the traditions and how the fans react to their players. And that's what makes sports so great.
