Over the next eight days or so, you will be inundated with cheesy, clichéd drivel from all corners of the sports media, disguised as the "2007 year in review." Well, I'm out of post ideas for the year, so I'm going to join the fray. For the next couple weeks I will bring you one blogger's opinion of The Days that Shaped 2007! The events that were so ludicrous, so stupid, and so utterly inexplicable they made me thank God I had a sports blog as an outlet to make fun of them.Today's installment: The day Chris Myers pissed all over Ian Johnson's parade
January 1st - Yes, Boise State beat Oklahoma in one of the great bowl game upsets of all time. Yes, the game featured a furious ending to regulation, and an even more ridiculous overtime, featuring two of the craziest trick plays you will ever see. All of that is fine and dandy. That is not what sent bloggers like myself scurrying to our laptops.
The noteworthy events happend immediately after the game, namely, as Chris Myers wrapped-up his post game chat with the Bronco hero of the moment, RB Ian Johnson.
Now, before I go any further, full disclosure: I do not claim to know everything about romance. I am, after all, unmarried (and available ladies!). But there is one thing I do know: If, at that moment when I am about to pop the big question to that special lady, some jackass with a microphone steps in and says "ok, I'll get out of the way because I know you want to propose to your girlfriend, so I'll let you do it" I will be pretty pissed.
That is exactly what Chris Myers did just seconds before Johnson dropped to a knee, and asked his girlfriend, a BSU cheerleader who was right there and heard every word, to marry him.
So kudos to Fox sideline reporter and ruiner of romance, Chris Myers. Through your inability to keep your damn mouth shut and let a man propose to his girl, you helped shape 2007.
