A BREAK FROM TRADE RUMORS....THE MITCHELL REPORT

by Jack Cobra, Cobra Brigade

For those of you looking for a break from all the trade rumors, there has been some news on the Mitchell Report front:

"We know that he's almost finished," one baseball executive said this past week, "and, believe me, that's all we know. And all Bud (Selig) knows."

No one knows exactly when Mitchell will present his report, no one knows what he has. They only think they know how many names he has and how big the names are.

Everything else, from the commissioner's office and from the phonies over at the
Major League Baseball Players Association, is pure guesswork, even though we're
told the Players Association has nearly 50 names from the Mitchell Report in its
sweaty hands already.

Supposedly this fine piece of literature is going to be out around Christmas time and while I don't think you can pre-order it on Amazon, you can probably find a copy laying around these Internets at some point.

The timing of the whole thing is pretty interesting since the Winter Meetings will be over with and a lot of the major free agents will be signed by then and a lot of the trade talks will be gone. With nearly 50 names coming out I have to believe that some of those players are looking for to sign a big contract this off-season before the report comes out. So, when you start reading about all of these players scurrying to be signed/traded over the next couple weeks, keep an eye on the one's who seem to be signing suspicious contracts just to get themselves off the market before this masterpiece comes out.
