The one and only Doctor Emmett Brown has joined the Epic Carnival team to provide insight on some of the great sports stars of the future. Having placated all potential problems in Hill Valley, he has turned his attention to sports. He has seen that the future has to offer and is here to give us a sneak peak. Brown is going to drop by from time to time and show us a variety of some stars you might not have heard of yet, but certainly will. These are some of the heavy hitters in high school sports today who are sure to make an impact on the college scene before long.
"There's that word again; 'heavy.' Why are things so heavy in the future? Is there a problem with the earth's gravitational pull?"
For some reason, this column typically drives me to dig up some randoms. It seems like a cop out to just hit the Rivals list and pick from the cream of the crop. Today, I made an exception. I figure if the guy is the most highly recruited, Rivals #1 basketball senior in the country, he's gotta be pretty good right? Well, lets find out. This is Greg Monroe and he is headed to Georgetown. I guess the Hoyas aren't going to disappear after they win the title this year.
Name: Greg Monroe
Position: Power Forward
Ranking: Rivals 5 stars / Scout 5 stars
Video:
Strengths: There isn't a whole lot you need to read here. He is the perfectly size, shape, speed, level of smoothness, degree of swift, etc. He's the prototype. He also has great presence as he runs the court very well and is a solid post passer. He has a very good outside shot and can dunk effortlessly.
Stats/Accolades: Isn't being the #1 player in the country good enough? Monroe was the 15th ranked player and 2nd ranked underclassman in the Nike Camp Fab 50 in 2006. Hoops Report says "he could be the best big man since Greg Oden."
Criticisms: There's not a whole lot of glaring criticisms, but the one thing I noticed is that he doesn't play very aggressive in the post. That may be more a function of the highlights though. He seems to favor a more uncontested "shoot over somebody" shot , than to take it strong to the rack like Jerry Stack.
Interesting Factoid: Judging by his music selection, I am guessing Greg Monroe is either really chill, enjoys repetition, or has a recording studio. I am going to go with choice #1.
