Scott Skiles can't stop Kirk Hinrich from his stupid fouls. He can't make Gordon hit jumpers, or make Deng take more control of games when he gets lost on the court. He can't make Tyrus Thomas give a shit. He did make Wallace go without a headband, or at least for a season. But for all the things he couldn't do, Scott Skiles has been fired from the 9-16 lifeless Bulls. And guess what? They're still going to be lifeless when they go to San Antonio on Wednesday. They're still going to have their usual terrible quarter with 23% shooting whereas the other team runs away with the game. It's funny that I posted on Chicago Bull this morning at 9am that John Paxson needed to do something immediately. I just didn't imagine he would act that fast on it.
There's only so much one man can do for a team. He can make them practice harder; run the shit out of them for messing up and losing focus. So that what he did...no results. He then tried being more relaxed, letting players police themselves. Didn't work. The fact of the matter is it's not his fault the Bulls have been so bad; it's the players. Did he fall out of favor with them? Probably. I wouldn't be too happy is I had some short asshole getting all over me for 9 months of the year. But winning cures all, and that's what the Bulls finally did these past 3 years after being the laughing stock of the league. Considering they've never started out well under his tenure, this shouldn't be new territory for them. Yet it seems that Skiles' constant anger over his constipation had finally caught up with him when it came to taking it out on his players.
As the team looks for an interim head coach, the Bulls might look refreshed for a few upcoming games, but they'll come back down to their normal selves soon thereafter. In terms of a coach, it doesn't really matter who they get. Ron Harper, Jeff Van Gundy (please God no), hell even Red Auerbach's corpse. They're still going to miss shots. They still have Wallace making money and not earning it. Tyrus Thomas still won't give a shit. Hinrich will still make stupid fouls.
A lot will be talked about of the whole timing issue with tomorrow being Christmas, but if you ask me, it really is a nice gift. I'm stuck with this shitty team for another four months before the season finally ends.

Sixer Fan feels your pain, and laughs at it. Come on back when your team routinely trades away its best player and plays in front of a half-full arena.
Knicks Fan feels your pain, and ignores it. Come on back when your team has the worst coach and GM in your team's history, and has the most expensive and unlikable roster in the league.
Skiles is a burnout disciplinarian. Those kinds always have a short shelf life. The Bulls will revive under someone else, make the playoffs, then fail to advance past the second round because they're not as good as the top 3 teams in the East.
this will be absolutely a big step forward for the chicago bulls and john paxson. i saw this day coming after last years debacle against the detroit pistons in the playoffs. bottom line is this for many years of watching the bulls lose games under scott skiles, i always noticed there have been many stretches during games he was not giving nor putting out the best lineup on the floor for giving his team a chance to win. frustrated with his own continuous line-up changes and never really finding and sticking with a consistent lineup and rotation, it reflected poorly upon his players and eventually they seem to start losing faith in him as a coach. somewhat similar too what is happening in new york but not quite exactly the same. the difference here is the bulls were expected to contend and possibly win the east by some sportswriters, but the knicks were not. so fans, lets not sugar coat the real reason why the bulls were having a bad year like skiles was. you now know the the real reason skiles should have been fired.
