It was reported the other day that Mike Ditka, he of blasting the NFL for not supporting former players enough, owns a charity that is supposed to support these very players, but had donated only $57,000 of the $1.3 million it had collected to those in need. So what is Mike's response? To take his ball and go home.
Mike Ditka said Tuesday he would dissolve his Hall of Fame Assistance Trust Fund in the wake of a report that the charity had given only a small amount of money to needy former NFL players.
That sounds about like Iron Mike. You don't like what he does, to hell with ya!
Ditka disputed part of the report, saying the trust has actually given away $159,000.
So instead of only giving away 4.3% of what it collected, it has given away 12.2% of what it has collected. Soo much better.
He said the fund's balance of more than $600,000 would be divided equally between Misericordia, a residential facility for developmentally disabled youth, and Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund, another fund that helps former professional football players in need.
So there was $600,000 just sitting there doing nothing for what purpose? Collecting interest? For a rainy day?
Ditka appeared in Minneapolis with several former Vikings stars to publicize the Gridiron Greats fund. Ditka, a board member for that charity, said he would focus his future efforts on that fund, and made a personal donation of $25,000 on Tuesday.
Yeah, that's showin' 'em, Mike. Now get out of his yard!
