What are the L.A./Anaheim Angels thinking?!?!?! That's what I'd be asking myself this morning if I were a fan of their team. They have a stockpile of young talent and were 'supposedly' ready to deal some of it this off-season for an impact bat to protect Vladimir Guerrero and....they couldn't get it done. This is a recurring theme for this organization because it seems that every time they've tried to add another impact hitter after Vlad, they haven't been able to get the job done.
The Angels have a wealth of starting pitching, a wealth of young positional talent and....a gaping hole in their lineup. Guerrero is getting up there in age and he's not going to be able to carry this team forever and I can't believe he's been able to do it this long without openly complaining.
The Angels play in a beautiful stadium with good fans. They play baseball the right way. Players want to play for their manager, so what's the deal? They hired a new General Manager a few months ago and he seemed certain that he was going to be able to get the job done, only he hasn't, outside of adding more starting pitching depth.
They are still in the running for players such as Miguel Tejada and Scott Rolen. Fine players in their own right, but they are not the impact bat that this lineup is dying for. If someone could please let me know what the Angels Organization is thinking at this point...let me know.
