Dear Coach Rod,
Hi coach. I'm a sane calm non-couch-burning well educated West Virginia fan, meaning I don't actually exist, and I would like to thank you for all you have done for our program over the course of your career here.
A sane fan like me understands the circumstances. We in West Virginia don't have the most cash or the best recruiting grounds and it would have been tough for us to dedicate enough resources to equal the biggest programs in the country year in and year out. You had to do what you had to do. It was a rough time to leave having choked away a chance at a title, but it's not like it was 100% your fault. I mean Pat White did pussy out of the majority of the game because his thumb hurt. He gets hurt in every game we lose.
I just want to say that I am thankful for what you've given this program during your seven years. You had the highest winning percentage for a coach in the past century. Better than Coach Nehlen or Bobby Bowden. You gave us 4 Shares of the Big East title when Coach Nehlen only gave us one. You provided us with teams who were talented enough to win two BCS games in three years. We've played on a New Years day bowl or better each of the last five seasons. How many programs can say that? You did a wonderful job and you made all of the state proud.
It's time for everyone to move on and be happy with where we are at. You'll get yourself and your assistants more money at Michigan, you'll be able to get 4 and 5 star recruits to run your spread instead of searching for hidden gems like Pat White and we will continue to dominate the Big East in the near future and will again contend for a potential national title next season. And now we are in good hands with Coach Stew a purebread backwoods West Virginian who will be able to sell the school with Country Roads charm.
So again thanks for the past seven years Coach Rod, thanks for putting West Virginia in the position of a national power. Ok now I'm going fool around with my cousin as we've got some inbred future Mountaineers to make.

Dear Coach Rod,
I am infact a well educated native West Virginian with all my teeth, and infact do exist. My problem isn't with you leaving, its the fact that you're now trying to drag our name through the mud as you try to wiggle out of that 4 mil you owe us. My other problem is people painting all West Virginians with a bad rap because a few bad ones. This just goes to show how uneducated they are for believing it all.
Dear Rare-Bread Well Educated West Virginian,
Perhaps there would be no mud dragging had my son not received a death threat and my property been vandalized...

Dear Coach Rod
Simon sounds like the name of a pompous, arrogant little fellow who thinks he knows something because he's sat around and watched TV all of his life. A guy with a name like Simon would naturally have an amazing education on West Virginia - because he he's heard all of the stereotypes and jokes. Don't get Simon started on African Americans, Asians or Native Americans -- he once watched an episode of Sanford and Son and heard about those "other people" on the playground. Simon likes making fun of other people because it makes him feel special. Simon needs to feel special because, well, he's not very nice and most people think he's an ass.
Actually, Simon sounds like a guy that will eventually call your wife "trailer trash" and make fun of you for your accent if things get tough in Annie Arbor.
Rest easy though, Coach, because Simon is VERY sophisticated -- simply because he was born somewhere else than in your birth state, where you, your mother and entire family were born. Simon is probably from someplace like Detroit -- the forcable rape capital of the world. He's proud of Michigan -- the state with the highest unemployment rate in the nation and one of the highest crime rates in the entire industrialized world. Based upon what I've heard, Simon is most likely an unemployed rapist. After all -- aren't all people from Michigan unemployed and criminals? I've heard jokes to that effect -- so it must be true. But us West Virginians don't hold it against him Simon. His mother probably never taught him to be very nice.
Heck, I bet Simon even went to college. He may have finshed an undergrad degree in something or the other. So, he's smart. Here in Morgantown, WV that would actually make him below the average education level -- but he could probably get a job at a convenience store or something. But pumping gas in Morgantown, WV is better than getting a white collar job somewhere else. After all, Morgantown has consistently been ranked as one of the nation's "Smartest Cities," a Forbes magazine "Best Place for Business" and an Inc. Magazine "Boomtown." Ann Arbor didn't make the top 300. Actually, I'm not sure if any Michigan town made the top 300 on those lists. Of course, Simon would know that if he had multiple graduate degrees like I do -- or a Ph.D. like most of the people in my family - or a law degree like my brother - or was an M.D. like my neighbor - here in West Virginia.
So, Coach Rod -- please understand when Simon makes fun of your heritage. You see, in reality, Simon isn't very smart and probably not as well educated as most of the people you encounted growing up in West Virgina. But please don't make fun of him - he probably just got out of jail for rape or something and can't find a job like all of the other Michigan fans. But, I know you wouldn't make fun of him, Coach. After all, you know better than to spread sterotypes about people with whom you have no personal experience. You know how to be respectful and decent - because you're a West Virginian.

Dude, after ALL of that, you misspelled the state motto.
Sorry, Sooze. I dropped a "P" in my haste. Please forgive my error. But I'm thrilled to know that you either know or took the time to look up the West Virginia state motto. Only someone with a Mountaineer connection or some serious intellectual curiosity would have caught that one. Thanks. Great catch.
..but I think my point was made. Judging all West Virginians by stereotypes or some overblown news stories is no more valid than judging Michigan by the worst parts of Detroit...or judging other groups by stereotypes. I can take the comments and open discrimination – but when my kindergarten age twins are teased by older kids and adults while we’re on vacation for being West Virginians, it starts looking and smelling like some not so subtle ethnic discrimination. Try explaining to a crying little boy that people think he’s stupid just because he’s from The Mountain State – even though he’s six years old and reading on a second grade level and understands the basics of chemistry better than most high school kids. Oh yeah – he plays soccer and his best friends are Asian Americans. However, he’s called hillbilly and redneck when he wears the Gold and Blue outside of West Virginia. He doesn’t even know what a “trailer” is….and we drive a Honda, not a pickup truck.
Teaching my kids to deal with these things and maintain their self worth is simply something that I would rather not have to do. Simon just caught me on one of those days.
I've lived all over the world, and the quality of life that I have here in West Virginia is 100 times better than anything I've experienced anywhere else. It is where I have chosen to live.
There are a lot of WVU fans who have been vocal about Coach Rod leaving. Those items make good news – so they are reported. However, most of us are actually happy that a West Virginian has once again escalated to the highest ranks of his field. We’re proud of him as a native son. Rod represents us well. We’ll miss him, but we’ll be proud of him. True West Virginians can’t help but be proud.
Thanks again, Sooze.

It's fricking sweet to know that people are still passionate about something these days. As for the connection, I'm a pretty awesome speller.
In reality I'd be willing to bet that Simon is not from Michigan but finds your blatant one on one comparison of Detroit and Morgantown as humorous. Perhaps the 840,000 population difference shall make that comparison null and void?
In reality Simon is probably not a rapist. Quite possibly because he grew up playing soccer and having Asian friends which says many things of his upbringing.
Perhaps you missed the opening sane portion of the post. Calling someone you do not know an unemployed rapist, or saying things such as my 6 year old son knows the fundamentals of chemistry however only reads on a 2nd grade level might disqualify you from such. But let's just say that you were just having a rage induced tantrum and are in fact sane. Perhaps then you know that when you associate yourself with a given group you unfortunately have to deal with both the positives and negatives of the situation. Perhaps as a West Virginian you should work internally to discourage the moronic notion that Rich Rodriguez is a traitor, the idiotic ideal that his son receiving a death threat is anything but evil. Perhaps as a West Virginian you should not be wearing blinders to the vast many around you who give you a horrible name.
Simon could probably defend himself from the blatant name calling from West Virginia Anonymous by pointing out some of the easily identifiable flaws of West Virginia because perhaps you simply missed the satire tag on the post.
