We excused his partying.
We excused his drinking.
We excused his gambling.
We loved him because he was fat and didnt care about his weight.
We loved him because his diet was cigarettes, booze, and donuts.
We loved him because he looked like your average Joe.
But most of all, we loved John cause he could play golf and he could play it well.
But lately, John is nothing more than a Nationwide hack trying to cut it with the Big Boys.
In 2007, Daly was scheduled to play in 25 tournaments. Mind you, John was not a fully exempt member of the tour and was playing mostly because of sponsors.
So how did John reward these sponsors?
By placing in the top 25 twice last year. By withdrawing from 6 tournaments and missing the cut 10 other times. John ran up scores of +17 and +18 and once even carded an 87 at the Wachovia. 188th on the money list for a two time major winner.
So maybe 2007 was a statistical anomaly. Let's look at 2006.
21 events, 8 cuts, 5 withdraws. 193rd on the money list.
Eh, two bad years can happen to somebody. 2005?
25 events, 2 top 10s, 6 top 25s, 42nd on the money list.
And thats the problem with John Daly. He's spectacular when he wants to be but bottom of the barrel other times.
And lately, he's been bottom of the barrel.
2008 has not started well for Daly who has already missed the cut in the Sony and withdrawn from another tournament citing rib injuries. Although, that rib didnt effect his partying and playing the guitar the night before his tee time.
What happens if John has another bad year in 2008? 2 mediocre years in a row was barely acceptable to his sponsors. Would 3 be the end of the line for Big John?
Shape up John or you'll be gripping and ripping at on the Nationwide Tour next year.
