OHIO BASEBALL PLAYER CHARGED

by Brian P. Foley, The College Baseball Blog

A current University of Ohio baseball player and a former teammate have been charged in a gambling case. Two other players have been suspended indefinitely from the team after allegedly placing bets in the gambling ring.

Andrew Shisila who is a senior pitcher for the Bobcats and former teammate Brent DeCoster are charged with bookmaking which is a first-degree misdemeanor in Ohio. They took bets during 2007 on various sporting events that did NOT involve any Ohio University sports.

This is a sad story to see student-athletes running a gambling ring for some extra money in college. The NCAA is so tough on the student athletes that some of them have to start finding other ways of making money even illegally. It seems like this type of activity happens at least once a year in some NCAA sport. If the NCAA was more lenient on providing student-athletes with legit ways of making money then we would not see gambling scandals galore.
