GLENDALE: UNDERDOG CITY?

by Brian P. Foley, The College Baseball Blog

Do you recognize that the four biggest games in the history of University of Phoenix stadium have been won by significant underdogs?

It all started last year during the 2007 Fiesta Bowl when Boise State knocked off Oklahoma in a 43-42 overtime thriller. Boise entered the game as a seven point underdog but all the national pundits thought that Oklahoma would easily roll over the Broncos. Boise dominated most of the game but OU caught them at the end of the game

Following the Fiesta Bowl, the 2007 BCS National Championship game took place in Glendale where the University of Florida was listed as a 7.5 point underdog to Ohio State. Florida ended up pulling out a 41-14 victory shocking the world with the victory.

The 2008 Fiesta Bowl was between West Virginia and Oklahoma with West Virginia reeling from a bad loss to Pittsburgh in the final game of the regular season and their head coach Rich Rodriguez leaving for Michigan. West Virginia was a 7.5 point underdog but won the game 48-28.

Last night, We saw the Giants knock off the Patriots 17-14 after being a 14 point underdog. This shocked everyone as the Patriots were going for a perfect 19-0 season and had beaten the Giants in the final game of the regular season.

So if you are an underdog in a big football game, You want the game played in Glendale Arizona.

Thanks to Mark Rafferty of Pitchforknation.com for bringing this fact to my attention.

Las Vegas apparently hates an underdog.

"The big underdog payoff for the Giants money-line backers meant a huge loss for Vegas," R.J. Bell of Pregame.com said.

"Some reports had over 90% of the money-line bets backing the Giants."
