CALLING YOU OUT - BOB KNIGHT

by WCT, The Ship of Fools

“Calling You Out!” is a periodic segment where WCT takes people to task for irresponsible journalism, foolhardy activities, or just general douchebaggery. Nothing is sacred, no one is spared, watch your ass mister! You could be next!

Today, one of our favorites, Robert Montgomery Knight

At first, when I heard that Bobby Knight would be joining ESPN as a college basketball analyst, I was optimistic. I have had my issues with the way that Knight has carried himself as the coach of Indiana and Texas Tech, but one thing that even the most ardent Knight-hater must admit, is that the man is unafraid to speak his mind, a quality that would make for a good analyst. Well, he was unafraid to speak his mind.

Friday, Knight appeared on ESPN for the first time as an analyst, joining the Mike and Mike show as a guest. Normally, the Mike and Mike show is little more than four hours of tired schtick and filler, but the segment with Knight promised to be a good one. Knight's appearance was teased by Mike Greenberg saying he would ask the former coach the tough questions about the situation at Indiana, so my interest was piqued.

What followed, was absolute crap.

After being asked questions he is in a unique position to answer, and any college basketball fan would be dying to know the answers to, Knight danced around the issue and changed the subject.

Why is he afraid to answer these questions? He is an analyst now, not a coach at a rival school, why can't he offer analysis about Indiana? What did he think he was going to do once he became an analyst? Did he think that he would be able to get out of commenting on what has been this hoops season's biggest story?

If Jay Bilas can analyze Duke, and Hubert Davis can analyze UNC, and Digger Phelps can analyze Notre Dame, why the hell can't Bobby Knight analyze Indiana? If this is the kind of "analysis" that we have to look forward to from Bob Knight, why not just call the whole thing off?
