WHAT'S IN A FREE THROW

Its one thing to be bad at something. Its quite another to be bottom of the barrel.

Of the 341 teams playing Division 1 basketball, only Washington shoots Free throws at a worse clip than the Memphis Tigers.

59.2% to be exact

Not a single player on the team shoots 70% from the line. The best anyone can boast is a .685 from Robert Dozier.

Joey Dorsey, Memphis' star big man who makes field goals at a 65% rate can't even muster 38% from the line

To put that into perspective, Ben Wallace who can barely make a layup is a career 42% FT shooter. The venerable Shaquille O'Neal
who shot puts the ball at the rim, never shot worse than 42% in a season.

How could anybody take this team seriously?

Yeah, free throws don't matter when you're up 30 on East Carolina but you can bet when you're only up 3 with 5 min to go, a smart team is going to start bringing in reserves to start hacking your guys.

Hell, a FT make here or there and that Mississippi State game is over well before the buzzer.

And John Calipari, well, he's sick of people talking about his team struggles...

"But everybody, all they want to talk about is our free-throw shooting,'' Calipari said. "I don't know why. I come back to the conclusion that maybe they haven't seen our team play nor do they really know and the easy thing to talk about off the stat sheet is our free throws. Maybe I'm wrong though.''

Here's an idea John. Spend an hour every week shooting free throws instead of having your guys chuck up three pointers after practice
