I have always said that anyone under eight years old can't hold their liquor. I have drank countless seven year olds under the table. That is why this story doesn't really surprise me.
The litte fella was admitted to a hospital that says they treated 175 underage drinkers last year. They also said this, which I find particularly interesting:
The findings also reveal that up to 95 per cent of those questioned are drinking at a level regarded as harmful and more than a fifth of underage drinkers are bought alcohol by their parents
Only a fifth of the underage drinkers get alcohol from their parents? How else is a six year old getting alcohol? Is he stealing from the liquor cabinet? If so, how does he know that alocohol even gets you drunk? Why would he continue to drink it, once he had a sip? If I ate or drank something that tasted bad at six age, I would probably never touch it again. I still don't eat broccoli. But this little bad ass had a taste of the hooch and he went back, again, and again, and again.
I wish I didn't laugh or stare in awe at this story. because it is probably very sad for the parties involved. Still, I can't wrap my mind around how a six year old is getting a steady enough supply of alcohol to become an alcoholic. This is a conundrum that my simple mind might never be able to figure out.
