RED SOX ISSUES!!

by Brian P. Foley, The College Baseball Blog

On Wednesday afternoon, the Boston College Eagles knocked off the Northeastern Huskies 13-6 and UMass beat Harvard 3-0 in the opening round of the Beanpot Tournament in Lynn MA. The consolation and final rounds of the tournament are set to take place on Wednesday at Fenway Park. Sounds like a sweet deal for these college kids to get a chance to play at Fenway Park the home of the 2007 World Series Champs.

I open up my email today and got an email from the Harvard SID that states the following below:

Boston, Mass. – The Boston Red Sox have cancelled the consolation game of the annual Beanpot at Fenway Park, originally scheduled for next Wednesday. The contest, which was to have seen Harvard take on Northeastern on Wednesday, will instead be played at a location yet to be determined.

The decision was delivered to the baseball coaches at each institution via email on Thursday afternoon.

Additionally, the organization moved the championship game between Boston College and Massachusetts from Wednesday, April 16 to Tuesday, April 15.

Through a spokesperson, the organization cited field conditions and a short road trip for the Red Sox during the week in which the games were to take place. Boston is on the road against Cleveland and New York from Monday, April 14 through Thursday, April 17.
So why are the Red Sox canceling this game because of field conditions and moving the BC-UMass game? Are you serious? We are talking about Fenway Park here where the people that take care of the field are professional in their industry and should have enough experience to make the field ready for Friday. So instead of having only one full day to get Fenway Park ready for the weekend series against the Texas Rangers they will have two full days. Big Deal!! The Red Sox should get a life and find something better to do then ruin some kids dream of playing at Fenway!

UPDATE: The Red Sox have reevaluated their decision to cancel the consolation game in the annual Beanpot Tournament, scheduled for next week. The Harvard-Northeastern game will now be played with the Red Sox scheduling the game for Tuesday, April 15 at 1 p.m.
