VIDEO EVIDENCE, WHY AMERICANS CHOOSE TO NOT "GET" SOCCER

by Ethanator1088, NESW Sports

1st of all let me start out by saying there are a litany of reasons that Americans choose to not "get" soccer. This is just a funny example. This video is from SKY Sports News, and the program is Soccer Saturday. This is the kind of stuff that makes it on the air on "Soccer Saturday".

Lets say there are 10 games and there are 20 goals scored. After all that excitement, what else are they going to talk about for 30 minutes to an hour. Here we see "Johnny Latte" talking about some survey on the worst places to live in England. It really gets his ire up. I personally have never been to "Captain Cooks Monument", so I guess I am one of the people this guy is talking about.

Please understand, we do not hate soccer ( for the most part ). We just choose not "get" it. We need more scoring. There is too much flopping. It would take too much time to keep up with all of the players in all of the countries. Then to top it off, I am supposed to understand what Johnny Latte is talking about on Soccer Saturday. I think the video is hilarious...and considering some of the dumb shit and lingo that's on ESPN, is this that much different?

He is ranting about Middlesbrough being called the worst place to live in England.

The host is Jeff Stelling and is great! Go look up some more videos, it's kinda like the whiparound coverage the NFL Network does...but better.

Americans (and I'm one of them) don't get soccer because of the "scoring thing". Take a touchdown in the NFL, make it 1 point. No extra points, no FGs, no safeties.

The final score of the 21-7 game would be 3-1. Think about that.

I hate the flopping argument because you sure as heck shouldn't be watching basketball anymore. You get penalized for flopping, not a "no call".

The guy is obviously kidding in the rant...I'm not sure what the hell the point of this post is.

Thanks for comments on my first post. I am sorry if I made anyone mad. That was not my intent. I thought everyone knew that Americans choose not to get soccer. It is a well known fact throughout the world.

World of Isaac = Thanks and I think it is a little different because the NFL network has 24 hours of the day to kill. Silly stuff is expected.

SSreporters = The flopping is totally different. Soccer players flail around like they lost a limb, and it happens way too much.

In the NBA, it does not happen much, there usually is some actual contact, and in America we lose respect for someone when they get labeled as a flopper.

That is how the flopping is different.

The scoring is different because a touchdown is 6 points and then you have an extra point and you have field goals. Your analogy would be the same if the NFL only allowed extra points..... Wait that sounds a lot like soccer :-)

Dave = the point of the post is in the title. Americans choose not to get soccer. Here is a small example of why. I listed a couple more. It was a silly video, but the reasons I listed are valid and true.

I disagree, I hate soccer -- mostly because of soccer fans. I'm perfectly willing to ignore this silly little game, except soccer fans won't let me. They insist that I would love it if only I understood it, that it's the greatest game in the world, blah, blah, blah. Hockey fans don't do this. They enjoy their sport without insisting I give a crap. Soccer is dull as dishwater and all the whining from soccer fans will never convince me otherwise.

Football. It's called football. You know, played with the foot. The clue is in the name, unlike that American game which quite daftly refers to itself as "football" but is in fact a version of rugby - although rugby is actually entertaining and doesn't require body armour.

So, Americans don't get football - well that's fine because the rest of the world just doesn't get American rugby.

Every fringe sport has its shrill gomers who have to feel superior to others because of their enlightened tastes. Hockey guys gave up 15 years ago, but soccer Euro wannabees never have and never will.

I don't get it, a 1-0 soccer game is boring, yet a 2-1 baseball game is a thrilling pitcher's duel, what gives?
