Several years ago, when the Detroit Lions' fans and organization were still unsure of what to think about John Joseph Harrington, I was gushing over a young Quincy Carter. I often said "Why can't the Lions pick up someone like Quincy Carter? He is mobile, has a cannon for an arm. This guy has upside."
I couldn't have been more right. Quincy's star rose so high that he grew tired of the ease with which he dominated the NFL and soon started using drugs to make it more difficult. He eventually found his way to the Canadian football leagues, where he again dominated, (probably) and won several straight Grey Cups (most likely).
Quincy then grew tired of dominating the great white north and decided to try his hand at arena football. As is Quincy's way, he started from the bottom, with the Bossier City-Shreveport Battle Wings of the Arena League2. Finally, Quincy parlayed his lower-rung arena football success into new found fame and glory in becoming one of several quarterbacks that will compete for a starting job with the Kansas City Brigade. His rosy outlook should help him make the most of this opportunity:
"I'm living a day-to-day life now. I can't take it beyond that," he said, repeating the mantra that was central to his most recent stay in drug rehab."
"I have to control what I can control today and not worry about tomorrow. When I do that, that's when I get in trouble."
I wish Quincy the best, and if he continues to dominate like he has on every other level he has played, he will be back in the NFL in no time. Hopefully as quarterback of the Detroit Lions. Although, it will be tough to unseat the best quarterback in the NFC North, Jon Kitna. Think about that statement, sadly, it is true.
