There are many who called the Giants run for the Super Bowl as a magical run for the team despite the retirement of Tiki Barber. A coterie of pass rushers and a coterie of running backs joined forces to get the team to the playoffs just in time for Eli Manning to emerge as something more than a lovable drunken pushover.
But you know what it came from? Jeremy Shockey's injury.
Sure, Kevin Boss is not nearly as physically gifted as The Shocker. But let's be honest. If the Giants were the Republican Party, Shockey was the Evangelical Christians. You needed to cater to their every whim if only to achieve equilibrium. But you'll never shine fully if you have to give 120 looks to a guy that'll only catch 60-65 of the passes. Eli shone because the offense got simpler.
And let's be honest, that's why Jerry Reese made the trade. Shockey is a big upgrade over the Eric Johnson's of the world. Kevin Boss is an emerging talent, and Jerry Reese can cull skill out of a 2 and a 5.
The Giants will be good without the Shockmaster. Trust me.
