WHY DO WE CARE: USA WOMEN'S SOCCER?

by Brian P. Foley, The College Baseball Blog

I watched the United States vs Norway game on Wednesday during the first day of Olympic competition where the United States gave up two goals in the first four minutes of the game to lose 2-0. It was the women's team second loss all-time in the Olympics and really showed how far the USA has dropped in women's soccer since 1999.

The USA team is currently coached by Pia Sundhage out of Sweden as she is the first coach of the women's team to not be an American. She served most recently as an assistant coach for the Chinese National team in 2007 before being named the new head coach of the USA team. She also coached two club teams in KIF Orebro DFF and the Boston Breakers of the now defunct WUSA.

Seriously, Why do you think people care about the USA women's soccer program? Do we care because they used to dominate the world of soccer nearly 10 years ago? Is that why people actually care about women's soccer or is it because we are in love with women taking off their tops when they win the championships?
