COLLEGE FOOTBALL WEEKEND OBSERVATIONS

by WCT, The Ship of Fools

It has gotten to the point where after a college football Saturday, we are left with more questions than answers. What happened to East Carolina? Is Penn State this good? Or are they benefiting from a joke of a schedule? Can anyone stop the offenses of Texas Tech and Missouri? Why is it that no one, NO ONE, is talking about Texas? They could be the best team in the Big 12 for all we know. And was anyone on the planet able to remain awake throughout the entire Wake Forest-Florida state 12-3 field goal-fest? I don't know about you, but I am happy that non-conference cupcake games are behind us, and teams are starting their league schedules.

- The Pac-10 cannot be this bad, can it? The two teams that figured to be 2nd and 3rd in the conference behind USC were each beaten at home on Saturday. Arizona State was never really in the game against Georgia, and Oregon needed a feverish comeback to get within a touchdown of Boise State. How in the world are any of these teams going to even be competitive with the Trojans?

- Tennessee has gone from an inconsistent team, to just a crappy team. That loss to UCLA looks worse every week (the Bruins were beaten at home by 'zona on Saturday) and they were never really in this week's home game against Florida.

- Its officially over for Todd Boeckman as the Ohio State quarterback. The senior played one snap on Saturday, and the rest were taken by fan-favorite freshman Terrelle Pryor, who threw 4 TD passes. Boeckman came into the game, horribly underthrew a receiver running a post route, was loudly booed by the home fans, left the field, and was not heard from again for the rest of the afternoon.

- I'm sure I wasn't the only one who was happy to see Bobby Petrino and his Razorbacks get their asses handed to them by Alabama. Incidentally, the team that he gave up on, the Atlanta Falcons, are 2-1 and look 100% better than they did when he was coaching them.

- The best RB in the nation that nobody talks about is Michigan State's Javon Ringer. Ringer had 201 rushing yards Saturday against Notre Dame, his second straight 200+ yard game, and now has 699 yards on the season. In four games.

- Is it possible that Mike Sherman's seat is already getting hot in Texas A&M? In his first two home games as Aggies head coach, the team has lost to Alabama State, and been blown out by Miami.

the reason that no one is talking about Texas is that they are going to do the same thing that they always do, that being beat up on patsies and lose a couple of games in conference to teams they should beat. the reason why, you ask? because other than the teams that VY put on his back and carried, Mack Brown teams are gutless. If MB had one ounce of Bear Bryant in him ala the Junction Boys, no one would be talking about Pete Carroll or Les Miles or Urban Meyer. Re: T A&M, Mike Sherman is a crappy coach. A&M should steal Applewhite out of Alabama and make him head coach so that he can shove it up Mack Browns ass every year for making him back up Simms.

Otis-

Thats true, but couldn't the same thing be said about Oklahoma? OU beats up on patsies during the non-conf schedule and always loses a game or two in conference that they should win. Yet they are the #2 or #3 team in the nation and Texas is under the radar.
