"Cool Hand" Paul Newman dead at 83

by Moondog, The World According to Moondog

I've been around long enough to see actor Paul Newman's best movies, some of which included The Sting, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and my personal favorite, Cool Hand Luke.

Released in 1967, the cast included some names that would go on to become some of the more recognized in Hollywood: George Kennedy, Dean Stanton and Dennis Hopper.

Although it wasn't originally cast as the most popular role, Strother Martin, who played the "Captain," was fortunate enough to utter one of the most famous lines in movie history.

Paul Newman was a huge sports fan and would become an owner of a racing team that became very successful. He also became one of the most generous philanthropists, donating over $250 million to various charities through sales of his Newman's Own products.

Newman won the Best Actor award in 1987 for the reprised role of Fast Eddie Felson in the movie, The Color of Money, a story based on an earlier Newman film, The Hustler, which was released 25 years earlier in 1961.

Newman was in fact cool, very cool, he was the essence of cool and I'll always be a fan of him personally and his movies.

it's hard not to admire Paul Newman for putting his money to work in such productive ways, such as his Newman's Own line--high quality stuff and the proceeds go to good causes... very smart.
