Criss Angel with the Epic FAIL

by DCScrap, on 205th magazine

Criss Angel's new $85 million Cirque de Soleil show Believe opened on Friday. Fans came in from all over the world to see the show open at the Luxor. Why? No idea, but they did. What were they treated to? FAIL.

Creatively, Believe is a possibly unsalvageable "waste of time" and a "dead end" that literally bored some audience members to sleep.

On Saturday night, reaction was even worse.

"Everyone in the bathroom was chanting 'bull----'" from the urinals, Damon Ranger of Chicago told me Saturday. "It was absolutely awful. You can 'Believe' how bad it is -- because it's terrible!"
Oh, come on... it's can't be that bad, can it?
"Dude, it's a train wreck," Ranger said. On a scale of 1 to 10, he declared Believe a zero.
Yeah, but that's just a couple of people's opinions, not enough to castigate the whole production, right?
"It's something that should be in a variety show," he said. "It's about a bunch of 'rabbits' dancing around in costume."
Rabbits, you say, that sounds, uh, interesting...
Two other Angel fans, Steve Moffett and Jordan Wilson, flew in from London for Friday's debut.

"We were hysterical about coming. We came. It was a waste of time," Wilson said. "The magic's not even magic."

They complained they could see wires and stage holes used in unconvincing acts.

Moffett and Wilson walked out before the ending, because Angel started singing the finale, a cover of his Mindfreak TV theme song.

"He broke into song. I said, 'He's singing. Now we're leaving,'" Wilson said.
Okay, he's singing. That is a FAIL.

I am sorry, what is a "FAIL" exactly?
Are you quoting "engrish" or some other site, cause you sound like a moron.

"I" sound like a moron? Wow.

Fail is a small type meme people use. Oh.. Oh. *raises eyebrow* I am explaining a word to a true trolly. Nevermind.

It's pretty hard to not understand what a "fail" is. Is this guy a fucking artard???

a "FAIL" is different in every situation. It can be little mistakes that nobody else in the whole world would ever even be in the same situation to make. Or a huge (what is called Epic) fail in which the whole world is doing something right but your doing it wrong.

Now "Your Doing it Wrong" is something you would say if you were watching the fail live, or the photographs captured the fail at the exact moment BEFORE the fail... you know a fail is coming, but as of yet your only "doing it wrong".

Example #1 Chris Angel, a new age showman who's entire career has depended on a PR crafted (and well edited) TELEVISION SHOW; is doing a large scale live performance with people who have been practicing LIVE showmanship since they were 2; He's Doing it Wrong.

Example #2 Up until the moment before he sang he was just doing it wrong; and then- FAIL.

Example #3 EPIC FAIL is reading an entire article about how big headed celebs like Angel can get and not having the ability to discern on your own what FAIL is.

I am sorry, what is a "FAIL" exactly?

WizardTom - you do not FAIL. Classic.

Is this your personal opinion or just maybe something you plagerized from an op ed piece from the Las Vegas Review Journal??? The show is still over a month away from its official press opening. Friday was just a preview performance. Still a long way to go.

if YOU are not willing to out show him. YOU CANNOT talk about his fail!, he's out there, trying, and your sitting there bitching!.

DCScrap said...

It's called quoting, not plagiarizing (I link to the original story) and it's me trying to bring news to my readers. Even if they are douches who don't understand what a blog is.

And Vin, so I guess you have no opinions on the President, your favorite team's coach or players, or an actor in a movie, or a writer of a book, right? If you aren't trying to do what they do, then you can't talk negatively about it, right? Oh, and I guess all those movie critics and newspaper writers and talk show hosts and radio hosts, etc. better quit their jobs quick, because Vin said so.

vin, I say this with the deepest amount of respect....

you're a fuckin idiot

I can. I'm a performer, director, actor, and I have an invested interest in the arts. I have national recognition for some of my arts, not all. I was the youngest member inducted in the National Guild of Hypnotists, before that time I was a stage magician. Today I'm mostly a stage actor and hypnotist; I can judge EPIC FAIL in the industries I participate. I'm a stage actor and entertainer with national recognition; and I agree with this FAIL.

Vin, I'm not conceded enough to think that the opinion is only valid because I'm in the industry... it was valid because it was an honest opinion directly from the audience we seek to entertain. IF AND ONLY IF this type of honest feedback is received and considered valid can the show ever hope to change things for the better before opening night... A change they would never know they needed unless some people BITCHED about the problem.

And to that, I can give a standing ovation.

Angel wont' be able to perform at all with this dude swinging from his nuts...

So who wants to explain "All Our Base Are Belong to Us" for the first commenter? :-)

The Prophet said...

...er...that would be "All YOUR base are belong to us". 'Epic fail' on my part...

...btw, I met Criss Angel in LV a few years ago and he was a real cool dude. I'm also a fan of his act in general so I have no ax to grind...

FAIL - Audio (US) - adj; 1) of, or posessing the qualities of FAIL. 2) lacking WIN.

ex: These comments are FAIL.

I am actually a fan of his too. I love magic when done well. What I don't care for is ego trips like this and the ones David Blaine pulls. When they do magic they are amazing, when they do things just to get attention, it sucks.

Lance Burton for my money is "pound for pound" the best magician in the world. You never hear about him doing things like hanging upside down from his gonads over Las Vegas Boulevard for a month--he just does his job better than anyone else in the world.

WizardTom said...

I've spent an evening with Lance years ago after one of his shows. We had a magicians round table in his private suite (I call it that; it was a massive dressing room). Ehem, again as someone in the industry he is a hell of a guy and really helped to rebuild the modern image of stage magicians during the "Chris Angel" of the 80s-90s, David Copperfield.

But long ago Burton realized he could retire with the same-ish show he's been doing for 20 years, he lost his motive to continue his innovations.

Angel, on the other hand, is bringing new innovations, moving the art towards a modern audience... he's always been great at that; but his field is entertainment television NOT live stage spectacle.

Uh, does anyone else think Anonymous is probably chris angel trying to defend his act?

But not this Anonymous, I've seen Lance Burton and he's cool when you're poundin whiskey.
