TOP 10 FUN FACTS ABOUT THE MILLEN ERA

by DMtShooter, Five Tool Tool

In case you haven't heard the news (and don't live near Detroit, where local authorities have declared a civic holiday and martial law), breathtakingly incompetent Lions GM Matt Millen was relieved of his duties today.

As a sports blogger and someone who really enjoyed betting against the Lions, I will miss him terribly. As a football fan who had to endure the Lions on an annual basis during their regrettable Thanksgiving appearance, I'm happy for the change.

But we'll always have these memories.

10. For the purposes of his obituary, the nation's media has agreed that he never played pro football

9. The city of Detroit has declared today V-M Day, and that no Lions Fan can ever be any happier than this day, by rule, for the rest of their lives

8. The Lions failed to win a single road game (!) for the first three years of Millen's tenure, but have heated up with an 8-26 mark since

7. When Detroit assistant coach Joe Cullen was arrested for going through a fast food drive through drunk and naked, he was buying for Millen, who was in the back seat

6. The "Fire Millen" chant has appeared on numerous college campuses, the newspaper comic "Gil Thorpe", and as a safeword in "scat" games among Detroit-area swingers

4. Joey Harrington and Mike Martz are both undefeated in Revenge Games against the Lions

3. In a game in 2005, over 65% of the Lions ' home crowd wore Bengal colors

2. After Millen was named to the NFL competition committee, the NFL became significantly less competitive

And the big one...

1. On the day he was fired, Millen was the second-highest paid GM in the NFL.

He made $3.4 million per year.

So yes, there is an excellent chance that he have made more in one year than you will make in your entire life...

for a job that you could not have possibly done any worse.

Golf clap, folks. Golf clap.

We will never see a man like him ever again.

I love this sentence on Wikipedia about the Detroit Lions, under "The Matt Millen Era":

On Wednesday, September 24, 2008 countless Detroit Lions fans rejoiced the end of the "Matt Millen Era." Many fans have long awaited this day and have considered this day "Christmas."

My mind is still reeling over the fact that my entire life's wages will be worth less than one year of Matt Millen's "service" to the Lions.

OTOH, my children don't have to change their names, or have food tasters at school...
