YOU WANT THE NEXT DUDE TO BE IN AN ESPN COMMERICAL FOR A FANTASY FOOTBALL HALL OF FAMER?

I'll tell you.

Marcus Thomas, rookie running back out of UTEP. And here's why it sounds crazy, right? He's the Detroit Lions third string running back. And yes, your Matt Millen signed Rudi Johnson to essentially split time for Kevin Smith. (I'll let you make the quotable Kevin Smith joke. You hipster).

But there are problems with both men ahead of Marcus. For Rudi? It's a melange. You have a 29 year-old who has been dealing with leg issues for the past two years. And as running backs go? You can deduce how that would be a problem.

Add to that the fact that Rudi has always been a step too slow? And you can see how the man would struggle to be a success in Detroit. He will not make it through the season. Bank on it.

That being said? The reasons why Kevin Smith will fail will be simple. 450 carries. The most carries in college football history. One of only four to ever have 400 carries. Marcus Allen was the exception. But Lorenzo White had one healthy season and whatever talent Troy Davis had? It disappeared before he left Ames.

And with an upright running style? Kevin Smith is going to get hurt. He's going to be much like another generically named running back. Chris Brown.

But why then should I be so high on Marcus Thomas? Didn't he get cut from the Chargers? Yeah, then again the Chargers had a spectacular amount of talent in their top three. Jacob Hester is back-up thunder and Darren Sproles is swiss-army lightning. There was no room at the inn for Marcus.

And Marcus has skills. Good power. Solid patience. He's a great one-cut runner. And he runs mean. In fact? If you wanted to be lazy, you know what you could call him?

A young Rudi Johnson. Watch him.
