Epic Carnival | Where Sports and Pop Culture Collide: Baseball cards sure have changed...

Baseball cards sure have changed...

For one thing I remember running down to the corner store to buy a pack of baseball cards for a quarter. Two problems with that now: (1) there is no corner store anymore and (2) you can't even buy a single card for a quarter anymore. Now the freaking things are coming out in 3-D. And I don't mean like those cheap photo-changing cards that used to come in boxes of Kellogg's cereal back in the day (holler if you remember those!), I mean 3-freaking-D...

Beginning Monday, collectors who hold a special Topps 3D Live baseball card in front of a webcam will see a three-dimensional avatar of the player on the computer screen. Rotate the card, and the figure rotates in full perspective. It's called "augmented reality," a combination of a real image with a virtual one.

Holy crap... this kind of makes my rookie Wayne Gretzky card look kind of lame...

Check out the video to be really amazed...
