Epic Carnival | Where Sports and Pop Culture Collide: The 10 most entertaining NBA players of all-time

The 10 most entertaining NBA players of all-time

Oh sure, there is no way on Earth that my top 10 here is going to match a single one of your top tens, but that's what makes sports great. The discussions and debates over who is the greatest this or that, or what moment was the best, that sort of thing. So keep that in mind as you read, and I hope you're entertained and maybe some memories will be brought back or some new ones made...

10. Darryl Dawkins - Made breaking the backboard an art form.

9. George "Iceman" Gervin - Never met a shot he didn't like.

8. Julius Erving - His ABA days were really something to see.

7. David Thompson - Could jump out of the freaking gym.

6. Dominique Wilkins - Combined hops, power and flair.

5. Kobe Bryant - Can drop fitty in any game he wants.

4. Larry Bird - His passes were more fun than most dunks.

3. Lebron James - The King can do about whatever he wants.

2. Pistol Pete Maravich - A Globetrotter playing in the NBA.

1. Michael Jordan - Like any one else could be #1?

BONUS VIDEO: Maravich & Gervin play H-O-R-S-E.

I hope these inspire you to head out to the Internet and look for more videos of these great players. There is plenty more out there to see.

No Magic Johnson? This list fails so hard.

i agree with bopcity... magic is easily top 3...... worst list ever

Magic would have been #11 or 12 on my list. Like I said, the list is very subjective and no one will ever agree 100% with it.

I know it's already been said, but not including Magic on this list renders it null and void. What the hell are you thinking? He should be #2, just below Jordan. And Kobe belongs above Lebron AND Bird.

Magic off the list? I still can't believe it--your list sucks.

I grew up a Lakers fan and I just didn't find Magic to be as entertaining as these other guys. Sorry.

Your list has good picks, but you gotta get Doc to the top, and we gotta get Magic on the list. Doctor J, regardless of spending first four seasons in ABA, spent about ten in the NBA and was the single most entertaining to ever lace up his sneakers. The first time Michael played him, Doc was I think two years from retirement, and Mike was a rookie. There's a shot of Mike thinkin he's gonna try to stand there and deny a slam, then he curls up and ducks as Doc slams it home. So many of Docs highlights were over NBA Hall of Fame frontcourts. So Doc's #1, Michael's #2, Pete's #3, Larry's #4, Magic's #5... after that you can pretty much go eeenie meenie minee moe from 6-10. Being from Raleigh, NC, I appreciate the love for DT. Though his first 2 seasons with most of his highlights were ABA before merger, once in NBA, plagued with injury. You're right though, he could jump out of the arena. You could argue a spot for Vince Carter, maybe over LeBron. I understand LeBron being on this list because he's the deal going now, not sure if hell make this list 10 years from now. You could make a case for the crazy antics of Dennis Rodman as well. You never knew what he was gonna do next. From exercise bikes on sidelines, to aggravating michael, getting in brawls in Detroit, the Brickowski stare downs, you never knew. Also could make a case for little big man slam dunk show Spud Webb, DW wasn't only dunk highlight in Hotlanta. So take rest of these I mention with rest of your list, which ever 5 you pull out of a hat, add to my 5 I listed earlier, and Ill be cool.... Later

Great comments ernwoo... and Rodman was under consideration because he was nothing if not 'entertaining'.

What about Dennis Rodman? He was pretty entertaining to watch. I love the old school approach it fits right with my classic sports blog: www.retrosportstalk.blogspot.com

Glaringly missing from your list is "Sir" Charles Barkley. Even after several years out of the league, he's still one of the most entertaining (on TNT).

Jordan is more entertaining then Magic? You'd take a fall away J over a no-look pass? What a idiot list.

a list is not complete without the pearl

DCScrap said...

Can't disagree about Pearl... You know, it's pretty damn hard whittling this list to just 10!! LOL. Oh well... I just hope people enjoyed the clips at the very least.

You know, I gotta give that last blogger a shout... How could I forget Earl "the Pearl" Monroe?! I'm ashamed of myself. He's right, we gotta get Pearl on the list. I thought of one for your consideration, that probably could get honorable mention for his length of the court bounce passes, among other things... Wes Unseld... How do you think he would rank? Just curious... because I'm really not sure, but he was a marquee player. And of course Jerry West, whose silhouette image was chosen for the "NBA trademark logo" that is synonymous with the league. Anyways, Id put Pearl on there for sure. On my list of guys Id bump Rodman to make room for him. Great post on Pearl! Keep the names coming!

No offence to the above (and yes magic is top 10) but this is most entertaining. On that basis my fav all time Bird makes the top 10 but only just. LBJ is def top 10 and prob Kobe too. But for my money THE most entertaining NBA player ever for sheer weight and variety of scoring including the most awesome in game dunks was Dominique. he wasn't called the human highlight film ever. Others may have been better team players, more consistent or won more championships but Niq was the only one you were always waiting to see what he might do. He should be #1 for sure

where's Magic Johnson? He should be on the top 1 or at least he belongs on the top 10. Did you forgot the "Showtime" of the Lakers on the early 80's? Magic is always part of every great play.
