Epic Carnival | Where Sports and Pop Culture Collide: Top 10 non-MLB home plate collisions

Top 10 non-MLB home plate collisions

Sunday I was watching the White Sox - Cubs game when Chris Getz swiped home on Carlos Zambrano and it got me to wondering about other plays at the plate over the years. I thought about doing a list of steals of home, but they'd all look just about the same. So I started to think about what else happens at home plate in a baseball game and of course, home plate collisions came to mind. So I went looking. And as usual, since Major League Baseball has all the marketing savvy of a tree sloth, they don't have any videos online. Which leads us to the next best thing: home plate collisions not involving Major League Baseball! Screw Bud and his crew anyway. On some of these I just used the description that the person posting the video used because they are usually entertaining comments, otherwise I will just fill you in myself.

In number 2 Pablo Sandoval is actually the catcher, not the baserunner. Btw he is now in the big leagues on the Giants and batting 340 with 11 hr's and he he leads the national league in doubles. Not a lot of people have heard of him yet but you guys should definitely vote for him as an allstar (he actually is playing 3rd base now because the Giants already have Molina as a catcher)

I played catcher, and I absolutely LOVED it when someone tried to run over me. I never got trucked. I played linebacker in football, and I always sought out hits.

There were many attempts even when I was still waiting for the throw. The runners tried to run me over, but the umpire called them out for offensive interference because they made no attempt to slide and instead lowered their shoulders with intent to run me over. It was always fun to see a runner bounce off you and get called out even when you don't have the ball.

Never try to run over someone who is bigger than you, padded, and firmly planted ready for you. It just won't work out in the end.

Of course the one time I did get injured at the plate was when someone broke my thumb while sliding. Go figure.

Hey Epic Carnival, this top ten list is fantastic. My head hurts from watcing it though, man did Pablo Sandoval get crushed in #2. You can post this to our site http://www.toptentopten.com/ and link back to your site. We are trying to create a directory for top ten lists where people can find your site. The coolest feature is you can let other people vote on the rankings of your list.

#7 is great. The part that seals the deal is the guy in the crowd who says "that happened yesterday, too."
