Boy there are a lot of lawyers/sports bloggers. My doctor, who writes a scatological celebrity blog, said that it's amazing how many people on the Internet are tremendous successes. I'm so glad the upper 1% of society all have keyboards!!

Sarah obviously doesn't need us to defend her - she's fully capable of that on her own. I don't think that anyone here would have cared about criticising her work - or any of our own. What we took issue to - and Shyster has now admitted to regretting was the use of the term "hack."

It's one thing to not like what someone wrote (hell most people hate what I write) it's a completely different animal to call them a hack. If everytime you wrote something that people didn't agree with/enjoy they called you a hack you'd get upset as well.

Speaking as a hack who takes myself too seriously....

Yes, it's been a terrible, terrible day for me. I thought for a while there I couldn't go on, but then I realized that I take life so seriously that I couldn't bear to end mine at such a young age.

But seriously folks, for people accusing me of being humorless and, well, overly serious, you all seem to be dwelling on this way more than me.

I said this to Kyle Smith in an email a few minutes ago, but I'll repeat it here: whether any of you all want to believe me, I think most of what you guys do is good, interesting, and funny stuff. Even Sarah's. Based on the number of people with high profile blogs affiliated with EC, you guys are going to eventually be receiving a lot of coverage from outsiders, whether it be late-to-the party folks still trying to understand Deadspin/KSK/EC style sports blogging or someone else. When that happens, you're going to get criticism, because everyone who is successful does.

While I understand why Sarah took issue with my criticism of her stuff (criticism I stand by, though upon reflection I regret using the word "hack"), calling in the cavalry or the gang or whatever to make personal attacks the critic comes off way too defensive.

Like anything else I say, this is just my opinion.
