WHY JOEY?

by Mac G, Mac G's World

While watching Game 5 of the New Orleans Hornets/San Antonio Spurs game last night, a chubby, fat bald ref came across my screen: Mr. Joey Crawford.

Yes, the same Joey Crawford, who was suspended from the end of last year's regular season and playoffs for his high profile incident with Tim Duncan.

In case you forgot, here is a video refresher:

Crawford was up to his tired, typical combative style last night.

Both teams were called for delaying the game by Crawford while the Hornets’ Melvin Ely was at the free-throw line with 10.5 seconds left in the period. Hornets players Bonzi Wells and David West went back and forth across the lane trying to decide where to line up, and the Spurs adjusted each time. When Crawford called a delay of game on both teams, Popovich protested.

His protest continued between the quarters, and he was given a technical foul by Crawford, who appeared to poke his finger in Popovich’s chest during the argument.
Fan IQ has video of the technical. Crawford's refereeing had little impact on the game as the contest was decided by New Orleans blitzing the Spurs in the 3rd quarter, 28-11, with clamp down D and a fluid offense. David West was unstoppable and CP3 was his typical, electric self.

Duncan actually got away with some over the backs fouls and Chris Paul was called for a questionable charge by Crawford.

My bigger question to the NBA is why Joey Crawford is doing a NBA playoff game period, let alone a Spurs game? Having Crawford ref a Spurs game, when his personal hatred of Tim Duncan is well documented, immediately questions the integrity of the officiating and thus creates an unfair situation for the Spurs and the Hornets.

Was Tim Donaghy unavailable to blow the whistle because his Hold Em tourney ran late?

It still baffles me that multi billion dollar professional sports enterprises are officiated and the results heavily influenced by humans in their 50's, even though common sense would tell you people much younger would be more physically and mentally equipped to get the calls correct.

CARMELO ANTHONY ENTERS MY DREAMS

by wwtb?, Pacifist Viking

The Denver Nuggets have been in a heated battle to make the NBA playoffs: every game has mattered dearly to their playoff hopes. With that in mind, look at Carmelo Anthony's game logs to see his performances in the last four games:

19/24 (79%), 47 points
17/31 (55%), 38 points
13/17 (77%), 36 points
12/20 (60%), 25 points

With the season on the line, Anthony has gone on an absolute shooting tear. For the season, Anthony averages 26.1 ppg, 7.5 rpg, and 3.4 apg.He has no shot at MVP (nor, reasonably, should he); he probably won't make All-NBA first team. But man, you've got to appreciate a 26 ppg scorer that is shooting 66% when his team badly needs it.

If the Nuggets nab the #8 seed and get to play the New Orleans Hornets in the first round of the playoffs, we could see the most competitive #1-#8 matchup in a long time (last year's Dallas-Golden State matchup was actually not competitive). Just 7.5 games separate the Nuggets and Hornets in the standings (for comparison, 26 games currently separate the likely #8 seed from the #1 seed in the East), and can you see a matchup of a team with Carmelo Anthony, Allen Iverson, and Marcus Camby and a team with Chris Paul, Tyson Chandler, and David West being one-sided?

Tell you what, folks, you can keep the NCAA tournament. I'd rather have the best players in the world facing off against each other every night for a couple of months. It's going to be fun.

BIRDMAN IS BACK, READY TO FLY HIGH AGAIN

by Mac G, Mac G's World

Suspended New Orleans Hornets Chris Andersen, aka "The Birdman", has applied for reinstatement into the NBA and the decision will be made very soon.

If the NBA lets the Birdman fly again, the Hornets will have first crack at his services and if they decline, he will become a free agent.

Andersen is serving a 2 year suspension for testing positive for drugs. Unconfirmed reports have mention hard drug usage(blow, E) but this is all speculative. Whatever the party drug of Andersen's choice, it cost him dearly as he lost his 13 million dollar guaranteed contract.

I hope the NBA brings back The Birdman. Here are my reasons why:

1. Dude has major ups- Myself being a white baller with cement blocks tied to my legs, I respect a fellow white boy that can sky. Mark Madsen, Brian Scalabrine, and Brian Cardinal have done enough white boy pride damage.

2. Cool nickname- Birdman is catchy and he has his own symbol for it too. Awesome.

3. Entertaining to watch- Most true fans love to see the players on their favorite teams scrap and hustle. The Birdman brings this high energy every night. Just think, David Lee with more tats and a cool hair due. I chuckle when he flashes the Birdman sign after crams.

4. Great Personality- Fans and teammates love this guy. Here is a snippet of Anderson's sense of humor.
Courtside during a Nuggets-Hornets game this season, a Nugget was shooting a free throw when Ander-sen spotted the Hornets' Melvin Ely, an old pal. In the airtight Pepsi Center, Andersen suddenly yelled: "Hey, Melvin!" followed by a high-pitched birdcall, which made the focused Ely crack into laughter.

5. Loves to Party- It sucks that he lost his NBA contract but who would not want to party NBA baller style and toss groupies around like block shots? Sign Me Up. My advice is to stick with booze and weed. It seems to work for the rest of the NBA.

Check out some Birdman highlights.

However, the Birdman should stay away from any more dunk contests after this debacle.
