PREVIEW: 2008 WASHINGTON REDSKINS

by GMoney, The Money Shot

I'm not breaking any news here, but the 2007 Washington Redskins season ran the gamut of emotions. Obviously, we had the lows of Joe Gibbs managing games like an idiot, numerous season-ending injuries to starters, and the sad and senseless loss of the baddest muthaf*cka on the planet, Sean Taylor. Nobody would have faulted the team for folding up, playing out the rest of the season, and getting their minds right for 2008. But that didn't happen. Todd Collins surprisingly came in and looked like a stud. The Skins won their last 4 games to make the playoffs. And although they were defeated in the first round, the season still felt like a success to at least this Redskins fan. Honestly, and I was in attendance at Super Bowl XXVI for their last Super Bowl win, I've never been more proud of my Redskins in my entire life as a fan.

But those days are over. It was time to move on a long time ago. Without further ado, the 2008 Epic Carnival Preview for YOUR Washington Redskins:

OFFENSE:
What's to like?
--Jason Campbell looks REALLY good. Just ask Peter King. This could be his breakout season.
--Clinton Portis is apparently as focused as ever. He's in an offense that once made Shaun Alexander an MVP, he should be a monster this season.
--Chris Cooley is the coolest (pun intended) player in the league...and he's pretty damn good, too.
--The offensive line is healthy; well, at least it is now.
--The offense is being described as Joe Gibbs running game mixed with the West Coast passing game...could be lethal.

What's not to like?
--The WR's are still a mess. Both rookies are banged up. Santana Moss blows. James Thrash is still around for some reason.
--Jon Jansen has been moving around like a corpse this preseason. It could be the beginning of the end for him.
--While the offense looks in synch thus far, you never know what to expect when going against a first team defense.
--Shaun Suisham is about as erratic as it gets when it comes to kicking field goals and kickoffs.

DEFENSE:
What's to like?
--The pass rush off the ends should be amazing with Andre Carter and Jason Taylor.
--London Fletcher is one of the best leaders in football and is a tackling machine.
--LaRon Landry is quickly developing into one of the best safeties in the league. --Greg Blache is going to continue the style that Gregg Williams ran to near perfection with blitzes from all over the field.

What's not to like?
--The tackles are either inexperienced or injury-prone (Cornelius Griffin).
--Marcus Washington and Rocky McIntosh have MAJOR health problems and that's not good when they are counted on to start as outside linebackers.
--Shawn Springs is getting old and Carlos Rogers is still trying to come back from a blown-out knee.
--They didn't even remotely try to replace Sean Taylor at safety. Reed Doughty just isn't going to cut it. Springs has been getting some reps at safety which could be interesting.
--Chances are pretty good that rookie Durant Brooks will win the punter job and who knows what you will get from a rookie. But he ahs to be better than Derrick Frost, that guy sucked.

EXPECTATIONS:
The Redskins lost ZERO starters from the team that made the playoffs last year while adding one of the best pass rushers in football. While they are still learning the new system, everything coming out of Redskins Park thus far has been extremely positive. The early schedule is tough as they have to go on the road to each rival in the NFC East in the first 6 weeks. But, if this team can stay relatively healthy (which hasn't happened in years) and Jason Campbell is as good as advertised, I don't think that it is a stretch to predict a 10-6 season. A return to the playoffs should be a strong probability as long as Jim Zorn and Company catch a break or two. I think the Cowboys will win the division, but don't be surprised if the Redskins put some pressure on them.

Screw it, I say it every year and I'll say it again..."WE GOIN' TO THE SUPER BOWL!"

THE BEST USA EXPORT IDEA EVER

by Mac G, Mac G's World

A brand new cricket league called the IPL (Indian Premier League) is making quite the splash in India. The league debuted last month and it is playing a condensed, more spectator friendly version of cricket called Twenty20.

The IPL is paying top dollar to its players with India Bollywood stars, India's equivalent of our Hollywood, in attendance and involved in team ownership.

In what could be defined as the best act of American diplomacy in the 2000s, the Washington Redskins have exported 12 of their cheerleaders to perform during IPL cricket matches.

The Redskins team are training IPL cheerleaders along with performing for the Bangalore Royal Challengers cricket team. Here is video of Skins' hotties breaking it down at the league's opening ceremony. (Performance starts at :37)

Some conservative Indian politicians are not happy with the new American cheerleaders as shown in this news report.

The Redskins cheerleaders' stay has been extended and the lovely ladies will continue their impressive promoting of all things USA!

I still do not know the rules of cricket but this sure was a clever marketing idea to get my ATTENTION.

TOP 10 QUESTIONS THAT COULD GET AN NFL PLAYOFF TEAM'S FAN TO THROW DOWN

by DMtShooter, Five Tool Tool

10. Is Albert Haynesworth always so stupid as to give the opposition gift fifteen yard penalties?

9. Do you blame Sean Taylor's ghost for losing by 21 points, the same way you credited him for winning by that many?

8. Did the change to the Steely McBeam mascot cause the Steelers to become such an, um, "finesse" team?

2. Did Washington's loss mean that Jesus really doesn't like Joe Gibbs after all, or is it Daniel Snyder and his special friend Tom Cruise, or is it all Redskin fans?

1. Seriously, you do know that any team that plays on wild Card Weekend is more or less meat on a stick against the better teams that had a bye, right?

TAYLOR'S KILLERS ARE SCARED... AND THEY SHOULD BE

by Kristine, This Suit Is Not Black

Four kids, ages 17, 18, 19 and 20, have been charged in the unpremeditated death of 24-year-old Redskins safety Sean Taylor. They were also charged this weekend with home invasion with a firearm or other deadly weapon and armed burglary. ESPN reports that two of the four have confessed to what they’ve done, but police are saying little more than that the event was a simple burglary gone terribly wrong.

I’m not going to sit here and pretend that I know a lot about being a lawyer - lawyering, if you will. But based on what Hollywood has taught me, a good defense lawyer should try to paint his or her client as a humane and repentant victim to gain sympathy from the media, the public and, eventually, the jury. The defense lawyers on this case are wasting no time.

“These are young boys who are absolutely terrified about the position in which they find themselves,” said Sawyer Smith, who represents two of the defendants. I’m sure they are terrified. Unfortunately though, my attention sits with Taylor’s fiancee and how terrified she must have felt as she cowered under the sheets holding her baby daughter as men broke into her home. And how that fear turned into panic when she heard her bedroom door get kicked in and her future husband get shot. And the panic that turned to pain when she lost him last Monday morning.

Another lawyer representing one of the youths painted his client as a scared child. “My client has not, I don't think, come to terms with what is being alleged. He's in a position, dressed in the orange jumpsuit over there in the county jail, thinking about his life and thinking about his future. You can only imagine the things going through his mind now."

Yes. Imagine that.

Don’t get me wrong, Taylor was not a saint - he’d had his own run-ins with the law - but for all intents and purposes, the people around him have led us to believe that he was taking a turn for the better. That he was growing into a man, into a husband and into a caring father. These kids, if the confessions are to be believed, shot and killed Taylor, robbing him of his most valuable possession.

So don’t call upon our heartstrings to think about the inner workings of your client’s mind as he ponders his future, especially since helped rob a 24-year-old young man of that very luxury. Your client, sir, should be happy he has one to worry about in the first place.

Maybe this whole thing will help him choose his next venture more carefully.

THROWING KNIVES: SEAN TAYLOR IS DEAD

by BD, Staff Writer

While I trekked out to for my last duty of the work night a co-worker of mine sent the news of Sean Taylor's death. I had no initial reaction, but spent the next two hours pondering a number of things. One of which was whether or not I'd be writing about it when I got to my computer. Initially I didn't think so. After all, what could I really say? I obviously didn't know him and I'm not even a Redskins fan, but as everyone from the sports shows to the generic morning shows discussed it I began to feel like I couldn't write about anything else this morning. And now here I sit, still unsure of what to say about Taylor's death.

I could start by saying what a great safety he was, but what difference does it make? His football accomplishments mean absolutely nothing this morning and in all reality they never did. Sure he may have become a Hall of Famer, but other than a plaque and jacket what comes of that? Nothing. The true tragedy in this is the father his young daughter will never really know. The fact that he lead the NFC in picks when he died won't mean much to her as she grows up. Nor should it to us.

Many have mentioned Taylor's past since news broke yesterday that he'd been shot, insinuating that he had it coming. That's a thought I cannot fathom myself. You see, Taylor, nor any one else who's murdered "has it coming" because no one (murderers themselves excluded), no matter what they've done, deserves to be murdered in cold blood. They just don't. Regardless of what may or may not have transpired between Sean Taylor and the individual who took his life, he didn't deserve it. I'm not going to speculate about it as I'm sure the facts will come out eventually.

This situation, if you can even call it a "situation," has me wondering about the state of the athlete in this country. You and I, the general sports fan, look up at these gods as we should, as great athletes who entertain us and keep us from thinking the trouble in our own lives. Unfortunately, others look at these men (and women) as targets because of the money they make.

If you remember, Antoine Walker and Eddy Curry were both robbed at gunpoint in Chicago this past summer and while I have no idea if Taylor's situation is a similar one (with a far worse outcome), it's incredible to me that those who entertain us have become almost like animals to some. To some, they've become the hunted and it's the unfortunate reality of the "do anything to get ahead" society we live in today.

SEAN TAYLOR: 1983-2007

by DCScrap, Editor

Washington Redskins defensive back Sean Taylor has died as a result of the gunshot wounds he received yesterday during a break-in of his home.

Doctors had been encouraged late Monday when Taylor squeezed a nurse's hand, according to Vinny Cerrato, the Redskins' vice president of football operations. But Sharpstein said he was told Taylor never regained consciousness after being transported to the hospital and that he wasn't sure how he had squeezed the nurse's hand.

Taylor was shot early Monday in the upper leg, damaging an artery and causing significant blood loss.

...police were still investigating the attack, which came just eight days after an intruder was reported at Taylor's home. Officers were dispatched about 1:45 a.m. Monday after Taylor's girlfriend called 911.

[Taylor's former lawyer Richard] Sharpstein said Taylor's girlfriend told him the couple was awakened by loud noises, and Taylor grabbed a machete he keeps in the bedroom for protection. Someone then broke through the bedroom door and fired two shots, one missing and one hitting Taylor, Sharpstein said. Taylor's 1-year-old daughter, Jackie, was also in the house, but neither she nor Taylor's girlfriend were injured.

Assistant coach Gregg Williams frequently called Taylor the best athlete he'd ever coached, but nearly every big play was mitigated by a blown assignment. Taylor led the NFL in missed tackles in 2006 yet made the Pro Bowl because of his reputation as one of the hardest hitters in the league.

This year, however, Taylor was allowed to play a true free safety position, using his speed and power to chase down passes and crush would-be receivers. His five interceptions tie for the league lead in the NFC, even though he missed the last two games because of a sprained knee.

"He loved football. He felt like that's what he was made to do," [coach Joe] Gibbs said. "And I think what I've noticed over the last year and a half ... is he matured. I think his baby had a huge impact on him. There was a real growing up in his life."

Taylor was 24.

COMMENTARY -- SEAN TAYLOR: REDEMPTION AND TRAGEDY

by CC Rider, The Black Flag Blog

He is a freak of nature -- carrying a size with speed rarely if ever seen.

He is one of the most fearsome players to ever don a uniform.

He is larger than life in so many ways.

The idea that 24 year old Redskins Safety Sean Taylor is now "clinging to life" after being shot in an apparent home invasion is nothing short of unbelievable.

If there is anyone I'd think of as invincible, #21 would be pretty close to the top of the list. In fact, if I was going to do a home invasion on an NFL player there are 1,695 I'd pick first.

When Sean Taylor came into the NFL he was, like too many University of Miami products a bit of a problem child.

Then a couple things happened.

He got himself arrested. He was looking at going away for a very long time. Then he became a dad.

Between those two life changing events, something clicked.

Sean Taylor grew up. Sean Taylor found redemption. Sean Taylor was no longer the thug who wouldn't return Coach Joe Gibbs phone calls.

Sean Taylor was the team guy who was just about doing his job and being a great Daddy to his little girl.

There are many of us who look at fatherhood as being the biggest life changing experience of our lives (I know I certainly do), but not too many made so many radical changes as Sean Taylor has.

His teammates even talk about how Sean Taylor The Dad smiles more than Sean Taylor The Player used to.

No matter how this turns out, that's the part that brings tears to my eyes.

This guy turned his life around so he could be a great Daddy to a little girl and somebody has tried to take that little girl's Daddy away from her.

We don't know the facts or the circumstances at this point, but I can't think of any that would ever make that make sense to me.

UPDATE: Taylor dies from his wounds early Tuesday morning.

SEAN TAYLOR UPDATE

by DCScrap, Editor

Update on our earlier post.

Redskins Insider's Jason La Canfora is reporting,

Richard Sharpstein, who has represented Sean Taylor in legal matters in the past and is a friend of the family, said moments ago that the player's life is hanging in the balance in the hospital. Sharpstein, speaking from the hospital, said Taylor is "nonresponsive and unconscious" and the doctors are "worried about a possible brain injury or death."

Sharpstein, who has been with Taylor's family at the hospital much of the day, said that there are major worries that Taylor may have lost oxygen to the brain, and that no other procedures are planned for right now. "They're waiting to see if he comes to," Sharpstein said. He was shot in the groin/thigh area near the femoral artery and lost copious amounts of blood.

It appears that Taylor was well aware of someone being in his home at the time of the shooting.

Sharpstein said Taylor was sleeping when he heard a noise in the living room. The intruder or intruders were at his bedroom and Taylor reached for a machete or other form of knife he keeps nearby in case of emergency, and two shots were fired, with one striking his leg.

La Canfora also reports that this is not the first time Taylor's house has been broken into or attempted to have been broken into in recent weeks.

We'll keep you posted here if there are any more developments in this story.

BREAKING NEWS: SEAN TAYLOR SHOT

by DCScrap, Editor

Very little has been released on this, but here's what we have so far:

From the Herald --

Sean Taylor of the Washington Redskins was shot and wounded early Monday by an intruder in his home on Old Cutler road in South Miami Dade.

Taylor, a former University of Miami star, was airlifted to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

According to police, Miami-Dade patrol officers received a call about 1:45 a.m. Monday that a homeowner had been shot in the leg. The homeowners told police they heard intruders at the rear door of the house, trying to pry it open.

The male homeowner went to investigate and a female in the house then heard a shot. Paramedics responded and found the victim, with a gunshot wound to the groin.

According to ProFootballTalk,

He is in critical condition at a Miami-area hospital and, per the source, is "fighting for his life".

Taylor spent Sunday night in his Florida home with his girlfriend and infant daughter. A robbery occurred, and Taylor was shot in the leg by one of the invaders.

The bullet severed his femoral artery. He currently is in surgery.

We'll update you as we hear more on this situation.

RANDOM OBSERVATIONS : REDSKINS @ COWBOYS, SECOND HALF EDITION

by Davey, Blown Coverage

That first half was pretty lame. There were 2 touchdowns, 2 missed field goals and about 18 bad snaps by Andre Gurode. Well, those did add some excitement but everything else has been pretty flaccid.

The 'Skins are without Sean Taylor and Carlos Rogers in that secondary and I'm still waiting for Dallas to really take advantage of that.

Either way, Terry Bradshaw is done screaming and we can continue with the second half..

  • Good start for the Cowboys here in the second half. DeMarcus Ware forces a Jason Campbell fumble and Chris Canty recovers the ball for Dallas. Ware probably did more on that play than Jevon Kearse has done all season for the Eagles.
  • I wonder what would happen if Sean Taylor tried to tackle Marion Barber. I guess that someone would die in the process and Fred Taylor would get a torn groin just because...
  • There were some reports before the game that Santana Moss would not be playing but he's in there and he just made his third catch of the second half. If I'm Jason Campbell, I'd be pretty happy about that considering the fact that Keenan McCardell is lining up on the other side.
  • It just hit me that Cedric Benson has a 43-yard touchdown run for the Bears against Seattle today. That should automatically eliminate the Seahawks from reaching the play-offs.
  • Romo tries to force a throw to Jason Whitten and Rocky McIntosh makes a great interception. He just flies in there, picks it off, and returns it deep into Dallas territory. Ah, correction. Dallas challenges that the ball hit the ground and the refs agree. Cowboys dodge a big bullet there.
  • And Dallas goes deep on the very next play. Romo lets one fly for Patrick Crayton and he gets tackled by Reed Doughty and that is pass interference. White guys should not play running back and they should not play anywhere in the secondary. If I was a head coach, I wouldn't let any white guy play in my secondary...
  • What a turnaround here. Romo hits T.O. for a 31-yard touchdown pass and Dallas suddenly leads. It went from Washington ball inside the Dallas 10, to a Dallas touchdown in about 4 plays. Cowboys up 14-10.
  • T.O. is pretty fired up on the sideline. He's been screaming and acting a fool for about 5 full minutes now and I think that he might have assaulted someone in the process. Mat McBriar might not be alive anymore.
  • Great work by the FOX cameras. They pick up Tony Romo "high fiving" Wade Phillips after the touchdown pass and he ended up hurting Wade with the sheer force of his high five. Wade is still shaking his hand in pain and I'm not sure how he's going to eat his Buffalo Wings tonight.
  • Holy crap. Santana Moss just reminded us that he's a pretty good receiver himself. Moss makes a one-handed catch at full speed while being covered pretty decent. I thought that only Randy Moss could make a play like that...
  • I kinda zoned out and suddenly I see Shaun Suisham kick a field goal for the 'Skins. It's now a 14-13 lead for Dallas and this game has become pretty interesting now.
  • Washington just does not have an answer for T.O. Romo connects with Owens for a 46-yard touchdown pass and it's number 3 for Owens today. That Redskin secondary needs Sean Taylor like I need a shower right now. Cowboys 21, 'Skins 13.
  • Another Redskin drive that ends in a field goal attempt and Suisham connects again. This time it's a 39-yard field goal and it's Dallas 21, Washington 16.
  • Wow. Shaun Springs is getting beaten out there like Brett Myers' wife. Romo finds Owens again and this time it's a 52-yard touchdown connection. Dallas leads 28-16. Springs thought he had safety help, but apparently that was not the case. Owens' jockstrap is firmly strapped around Springs' neck right now.
  • Jason Campbell is quietly having a great game here. He methodically leads the offense down the field and finishes the drive with a touchdown pass to Santana Moss. He's 30-44 for 317 yards and two touchdowns so far. The 'Skins are back in it, down only 28 to 23.
  • The Jets and Steelers are going to overtime, tied at 13. I have no explanation for that.
  • Oh, and Campbell messes up right when his team needed him the most. Washington got the ball back and drove pretty deep in Dallas territory but Campbell gets picked off by Terence Newman. The Cowboys are a first down away from ending this thing.
  • And the Jets beat the Steelers in overtime. I mean, if we're going to eliminate Seattle from the play-off race for giving up a long touchdown run to Cedric Benson, then we should definitely eliminate the Steelers for losing to the Jets. Be ashamed Pittsburgh...
  • Looks like Campbell will get one more shot at this. Dallas could not get that first down and they will have to punt it. Washington will get the ball back with less than 40 seconds to go.
  • Nope, he can't get it done. The 'Skins try a Hail Mary there at the end, and wouldn't you know it, it's T.O. that knocks the pass down and ends the game. I think it's safe to say that he's the player of the game today. Dallas holds on to win 28-23 and are tied again with Green Bay at 9-1.

RANDOM OBSERVATIONS : REDSKINS @ COWBOYS, FIRST HALF EDITION

by Davey, Blown Coverage

I may be wrong here but it feels like I have seen every Cowboys game this season and today I'll be seeing Tony Romo's grin again.

Dallas is on a roll while the 'Skins will be lining up a smurf, a goldfish and Verne Troyer at wide receiver. Oh, and they will be without Sean Taylor as well so that's not really good.

I have Dallas picked to win and for fantasy purposes I'll be keeping a close eye on Clinton Portis, Julius Jones and Patrick Crayton. Joe Buck and Troy Aikman are our announcers and it's time to get this thing underway...

  • Cowboys get two quick first downs to start the game and now there's a high snap but Tony Romo just casually catches that ball with one hand and manages to get a pass off. The way he caught that ball with one hand was pretty impressive. Todd Pinkston can't do that...
  • Romo's having a tough time with these snaps here. He's calling an audible but his center decides to snap it and it ricochets off of his face and into Julius Jones' hands. But that just goes to show you how good things are going for Dallas these days. If it was Miami, that ball would have given John Beck a concussion and the opposing defense would have returned the fumble for a touchdown.
  • And just like that the Redskins score. Jason Campbell finds Chris Cooley in the endzone and it was Roy Williams again who totally messed up in coverage. Roy Williams covers as good as MC Hammer manages money. Redskins up 7-0.
  • Dallas center Andre Gurode is channeling his inner Rick Ankiel today. He snaps this one way over Romo's head, forcing Romo to scramble back and heave a long pass to T.O. but it gets intercepted. Andre Gurode's snaps have as much accuracy as a Tarvaris Jackson pass.
  • Joe Buck just said that the Cowboys and Packers might be the best two teams in the NFC. Joe Buck is on top of his game today folks.
  • Weird play here. Antwan Randle El takes the hand-off, runs backwards for about 5 yards, stops, turns the other way and passes it to Chris Cooley. Randle El could be the starting quarterback for at least 3 teams in the league right now with the skills that he just showed right there.
  • Another horrible snap by Gurode and again Romo picks it up with ease. Cowboys fans must wonder why he couldn't show these ball catching skills last season against Seattle.
  • Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett has some pretty decent sized testicles himself. Even though Gurode snaps the ball with as much accuracy as a dead alligator, he's still calling plenty of plays out of the shotgun.
  • And the Cowboys finally break through. Romo finds T.O. in the endzone and Shawn Springs had no chance on that one. Dallas 7, Washington 7, Andre Gurode -5.
  • Jason Campbell leads a nice two-minute offense and the 'Skins manage to get a field goal before halftime. Wade Phillips tried to "ice" Shaun Suisham but Shaun Suisham can not be iced. Washington 10, Dallas 7 and it's time for a little break.

TOM BRADY COULD HAVE BEEN YOUR TEAM'S QUARTERBACK, AND YOUR TEAM'S, AND YOUR TEAM'S, AND YOURS, AND YOURS, ...

by DCScrap, Our Book of Scrap

Tom Brady is on a hot streak like we've never seen before by an NFL quarterback. First, he bags smokin' hot Bridget Moynahan and has a kid with her, then he scores a super-rich supermodel in Gisele. Oh, you thought I was talking about his 27 touchdowns in the first seven games of the season? Okay, let's go there then.

Today I was listening to the radio when the host was discussing the 2000 NFL draft. You know, the one in which everyone completely ignored the guy who is on his way to making an argument for being the best quarterback of all time was drafted. The host brought up some interesting tidbits that I wanted to share with you. That's just how I am. None of this is groundbreaking news, but it is an interesting reminder of just what happened back then, how bad NFL GM's drafting skills can be, and how selecting a QB in the draft is such a crapshoot.

First off, let me say that this might have been the worst overall draft in NFL history. The top five picks were Courtney Brown by the Browns, LaVarr Arrington by the 'Skins, Chris Samuels by the 'Skins, Peter Warrick by the Bengals, and Jamal Lewis by the Ravens. I don't see a Peyton Manning or LT in that bunch.

Also, did you know there were six quarterbacks taken ahead of Tom Brady in that draft? Probably. Did you know that there was only one quarterback taken in the entire first two rounds of that draft? If it weren't for Brady, this might have been the worst crop of quarterbacks to ever be taken in a single draft.

Let's take a look at how those six fellas have panned out so far, shall we?

Round (Overall) Team - Player, POS College
1 (18) New York Jets - Chad Pennington, QB Marshall
Chad has had a nice little career. Nothing Brady-like and definitely not first-round-worthy.
CAREER STATS: 13,184 YDS, 81 TD, 53 INT

3 (65) San Francisco 49ers - Giovanni Carmazzi, QB Hofstra
The next Steve Young he was not. More like Jim Drunkenmiller, only with less picks.
CAREER STATS: 0 YDS, 0 TD, 0 INT

3 (75) Baltimore Ravens - Chris Redman, QB Louisville
That's okay though, they drafted Kyle Boller shortly thereafter and he has been, uh, below average.
CAREER STATS: 1,111 YDS, 7 TD, 5 INT

5 (163) Pittsburgh Steelers - Tee Martin, QB Tennessee
Hey, he was almost as good as Peyton Manning.
CAREER STATS: 69 YDS, 0 TD, 1 INT

6 (168) New Orleans Saints - Marc Bulger, QB West Virginia
WOW! A decent QB and in the same round as Brady. Nice job NFL GM's! What's that? He doesn't play for the Saints? Never mind.
CAREER STATS: 17,223 YDS, 97 TD, 66 INT

And then we go back to this...
6 (183) Cleveland Browns - Spergon Wynn, QB Southwest Texas State
CAREER STATS: 585 YDS, 1 TD, 7 INT

And finally, our hero...

6 (199) New England Patriots - Tom Brady, QB Michigan
3 rings and Gisele. 'Nuff said.
CAREER STATS: 23,689 YDS, 174 TD, 80 INT

But hey, the Redskins took QB Todd Husak just three picks later, while the Chargers took QB JaJuan Seider five picks later. Ohhhhhh, so close.

TOTALS OF THE SIX QB'S TAKEN AHEAD OF HIM:
32,172 YDS, 186 TD, 132 INT

Let's say that those six QB's were just one guy. I think I would still rather have Brady.

And since we're on the subject of that wicked pissah of a draft, check out some of the other genius selections at the skill positions made by NFL GM's in the year 2000...

1 (10) Baltimore Ravens - Travis Taylor, WR Florida Bad.
1 (11) New York Giants - Ron Dayne, RB Wisconsin Bad.
1 (21) Kansas City Chiefs - Sylvester Morris, WR Jackson State Bad.
1 (31) St. Louis Rams - Trung Canidate, RB Arizona Bad.

Hell of a first round I tell you. Some real building blocks were taken that year.

Go 'Skins.

CHEERLEADER FRIDAY

by DCScrap, Our Book of Scrap

In my never-ending quest to bring you all things cheerleader, I am proud to update you on the state of NFL Cheerleader calendars. After all, it's almost Christmas shopping time!!

The Titans ladies have unveiled their page-turner already.

“We are very proud of our calendar and excited about the business opportunity it presents for our department,” said Stacie Kinder, director of cheerleaders for the Titans.

Of course you are.

The Cardinals squad also had a little par-tay to announce the publication of their day-counter. Looks like it was more fun than should be allowed!

Not to be outdone, the Redskins are also on the board with their monthly minxes.

This marks the first time that all 15 cover models from the past 10 years will be together for the first time. Way to go girls!

The Jaguars' team, the ROAR (awesome name), put together a nice slideshow of their photos.

Man, how am I going to pick just one calendar?!

Never a team to shy away from a party, the Ben-Gals had a great time at the release of their 2008 effort.

And finally, the Houston Texans Cheerleaders released the cover of the 2008 Houston Texans Cheerleader Swimsuit Calendar just yes
